Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada's youngest province, Newfoundland tourism prides itself on
celebrating its culture and traditions. 2011 will be no different in this charming province. Its people will
still honor their heritage through numerous festivals and events. Yet during the coming year,
Newfoundland and Labradorians will join other Canadians in a shared cultural celebration.
Culture Days is a collaborative across-Canada volunteer movement designed to raise the awareness and
participation in Canadian culture. This amazing initiative takes place in all provinces and territories
between September 30 and October 2, 2011. Alberta's celebration is called Alberta Arts Day. Quebec's
cultural event is referred to as "Journées de la culture in Québec."
2. Newfoundland and Labrador will honor Culture Days in its own unique style. Special activities will be
happening across the island. In autumn 2011, Newfoundland and Labrador will be celebrating its
awesome culture amidst glorious fall colors.
The Culture Days committee has not released the list of events for the 2011 celebration. Yet if last year's
festivities are any indication of the fun, Culture Days is bound to be a success. Visit the website of this
Canadian movement for the latest information about upcoming activities. Many events that were held
last year will occur again in 2011. In addition, added attractions and updated activities will be included in
the upcoming celebrations.
Obviously, no Newfoundland celebration would be complete without music. Last year, Southern
Harbour hosted an afternoon of traditional music. In 2011, similar gatherings will be held in
communities around the province. Dance NL performed all types of dance for 2010 celebrations in St.
John's - the province's capital city. Check out the local tourism information for the nearest musical
event.
Of course, Culture Days will be highlighting art in all forms. The Mary March Provincial Museum in Grand
Falls-Windsor recognized Culture Days and even extended it in 2010 with an extra day of events. Culture
Days activities are designed with something in mind for everyone including unique attractions and plain,
old-fashioned fun. Attendees can enjoy everything from demonstrations of net-making and fly tying to
children's art activities.
3. Provincial events will include entertainment from tall tales to old-fashioned recitations to film festivals.
All events are 'free' entertainment. Actually, only 'free' activities are eligible to be registered officially for
Culture Days. The committee accepts interactive arts events, activities where visitors participate in arts,
or other free events. Of course, venues are allowed to have 'free' and 'paid' programs on site during the
celebration of Culture Days.
