Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society * 300 Boston Post Road * West Haven, CT. 06516April 19,
2016Dear Madhulika, We are pleased to inform you that you have been nominated for
membership in the Zeta Chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the International Honor Society
for the Computing and Information Disciplines. This nomination has been based upon
your outstanding scholastic achievements and demonstrated good character as a student
in the M.S. program in Computer Science at The University of New Haven. The Upsilon
Pi Epsilon Association was founded at Texas A&M University in 1967 for students and
faculty who exhibit superior scholastic and professional achievement in the computing
science curriculum. It remains the only National Honor Society for the Computing and
Information disciplines and is recognized as such by the Association for Computing
Machinery (ACM) and IEEE Computer Society. In 1997, Upsilon Pi Epsilon was
admitted as a member of the Association of College Honor Societies - the parent
organization for all academic honor societies in North America. The University of New
Haven chapter was chartered in the Spring of 2011 by the Executive Council as the sixth
chapter of the association in the state of Connecticut. You can learn more about UPE
from its website at http://upe.acm.org. Membership in Upsilon Pi Epsilon requires a one-
time fee of $60 which will go directly to the national headquarters and covers the fee for
lifetime membership. Each new member will receive a membership certificate and a carat
clad Recognition Key (lapel pin) to signify membership. Graduating students may also
purchase a UPE stole to be worn at commencement by going to the memorabilia section
of the UPE website. In addition, ACM now also provides a free one-year ACM student
membership to newly active members of UPE, which includes subscriptions to
Communications of the ACM, ACM's Digital Library, and more. We hope to organize a
community service activity for the fall term and hope our new members will be able to
participate in it. To accept your invitation into the Zeta Chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon,
please send a formal notification of acceptance (email is acceptable) to Dr. Eggert no
later than April 26, 2016, along with a check for $60 made payable to Upsilon Pi
Epsilon. (If you cannot write checks, we can handle a limited amount of cash.) The
initiation ceremony is currently scheduled for May 4, 2016 at 4:30 pm, and will be
followed by light refreshments. After that, there will be a brief chapter meeting in which
our officers will be elected and this year's service project will be discussed. Guests are
welcome at the ceremony and reception. Recommended attire is jacket and tie for men,
dress for women. Once again, congratulations, and we hope you will accept this
opportunity to become a member of this prestigious Honor Society. Previous membership
in other honor societies does not preclude your joining UPE. Please let me know your
decision, or if you have any problems or questions. Should you choose not to accept this
invitation, unfortunately, according to the National Constitution of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon
Association, you cannot be re-invited to join Upsilon Pi Epsilon in the future. (If you are
not able to attend the ceremony, you may join now and be initiated later.) Sincerely,David
