In 1952, King Ranch Texas, bought ranches in Cuba and Australia. The
Cuban ranch encompassed more than 38,000 acres but was lost during
the Cuban revolution (1959).
By crossbreeding Brahman bulls, native to India, with British Shorthorn stock, the ranch in Texas produced the
Santa Gertrudis, recognized as the first American breed of beef cattle and the first cattle breed to be recognized in
the world in more than a century, They were also grazed in Cuba.
Intricately inlaid table top was hidden away when the ranch was nationalized
in 1959, and recently brought out for tourists. Note the 48 stars.
