Start By:
a. Release the system pressure.
When you are using hydraulic cylinders and puller studs, always ensure
that the rated capacity of the puller stud meets or exceeds the rated
capacity of the hydraulic cylinder. If the puller stud does not meet or

exceed the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder, a sudden failure of
the puller stud could occur. The sudden failure of the puller stud could
result in personal injury or death.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Install Tooling (A) onto the hydraulic tank. Attach an air supply hose onto Tooling (A).
Apply 138 kPa (20 psi). This procedure will pull a vacuum on the hydraulic system.

2. Open door assembly (1) on the left side.
3. Remove bolts (2) and reposition panel assembly (3).

4. Remove bolt (12), bushing (13), and pin assembly (14).
5. Disconnect hose assemblies (11). Remove cotter pin (8), bolt (10), and bushing (9). Remove
pin assembly (7). The weight of articulation cylinder (12) is approximately 34 kg (75 lb).
Use two people in order to remove articulation cylinder (12).
6. Remove seal assemblies (13).

7. Use Tooling (B) in order to remove bearing (14). Repeat the process for the other side.

1. Use Tooling (D) in order to install bearing (15). Repeat the process for the other side.
2. Use Tooling (D) in order to install seal assemblies (14).
3. Use two people in order to Install articulation cylinder (12). The weight of articulation
cylinder (12) is approximately 34 kg (75 lb). Install pin (7). Install bushing (9), bolt (10),
and cotter pin (8). Connect hose assemblies (11).
4. Install pin assembly (6), bushing (5), and bolt (4).

5. Position panel assembly (3) and install bolts (2).
6. Close door assembly (1).

2. Use Tooling (D) in order to install seal assemblies (11).
3. Use two people in order to Install articulation cylinder (7). The weight of articulation
cylinder (7) is approximately 34 kg (75 lb). Install pin assembly (6). Install bushing (10),
bolt (9), and cotter pin (5). Connect hose assemblies (19).
4. Install pin assembly (2), l bushing (4), and l bolt (3).

Cylinders equipped with lock valves can remain pressurized for very
long periods of time, even with the hoses removed.
Failure to relieve pressure before removing a lock valve or
disassembling a cylinder can result in personal injury or death.
Ensure all pressure is relieved before removing a lock valve or
disassembling a cylinder.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system on this
machine after the engine and pump have been stopped. Serious injury
can result if this pressure is not released before any service is done on
the hydraulic systems. In order to prevent possible injury, release the
hydraulic system pressure before working on any fitting, hose, or
hydraulic component.
Lower all attachments to the ground before service is started. If the
hydraulic system must be serviced, tested, or adjusted with the
attachment in the raised position, the attachments and lift cylinders
must be supported properly.
Always move the machine to a location away from the travel of other
machines. Be sure that other personnel are not near the machine when
the engine is running and tests or adjustments are being made.
1. Completely lower the ripper to a solid, level surface.
2. Release the system pressure. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "System Pressure -
Release".
3. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock -
Separate and Connect".

4. Install Tooling (A) onto the hydraulic tank. Attach an air supply hose onto Tooling (A). Apply
138 kPa (20 psi). This procedure will pull a vacuum on the hydraulic system.
5. Disconnect hose assemblies (1).

6. Attach a suitable lifting device to ripper lift cylinder (2). The weight of ripper lift cylinder (2) is
approximately 91 kg (200 lb).
7. Remove bolts (3). Install Tooling (B) in holes (4). Remove bearing trunnion (5).
8. Repeat Step 7 for the opposite side.
9. Remove bolts (7) and remove plate (8).
10. Remove pin (6).
