Engine Oil Cooler - Remove and Install
SMCS - 1378-010
Removal Procedure
Start By:
a. Remove the exhaust cooler (NRS).
b. Remove the engine oil filter base.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.
Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

21. 1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

Note: Ensure that engine oil cooler core (1) does not fall when bonnet (2) is removed.
2. Remove bolts (3), bonnet (2), and the gasket.

3. Slide engine oil cooler core (1) and bypass tube assembly (4) toward the front of the engine
and remove engine oil cooler core (1) and bypass tube assembly (4).
4. If necessary, remove bolts (5), bonnet (6), and the gasket.
Installation Procedure
1. Install engine oil cooler core (1) in reverse order of removal.

a. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove
and Install".

1. Remove bolt (5), thrust plate (6), and idler gear assembly (7) from shaft assembly (8).
2. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press in order to remove the bearing from idler gear
assembly (7).
3. Remove shaft assembly (8) from body (4). Remove bolt (1) and washer (2).
4. Use Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) to remove drive gear (3) from body (4). Remove the key
from the pump shaft.

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
5. Remove bolts (9) and separate body (10) from spacer (12) and body (4).
6. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press in order to remove the bearings from body (10).
7. Remove gears (11). Remove spacer (12).
8. Remove the bearings from spacer (12).
9. Remove shaft assemblies (13).
10. Remove bolts (14) and retainer (15).
