Male violence against women takes multiple forms and modalities, although physical violence is
the easiest to recognize. There is no profile of the woman-type who suffers violence.
VIOLENCE INVOLVES ALL WOMEN.
It includes the use of any act guided by intent to hurt or terrorize the
victim.
New stories and statistics reveal that equality between women and men
remains a distant goal for all countries, regardless of their degree of
wealth and development. Even today worldwide poverty and injustice
affect women disproportionately because of imbalances of power and
prejudices that go beyond geographical boundaries, from Europe to the
smallest village in India.
It encloses every form of abuse that damages the woman's identity:
verbal attacks such as derision, verbal harassment, insult, denigration, aimed at
convincing the woman to "not hold anything", to better keep her under control
isolate women, distance them from supportive social relations or prevent them
from accessing economic and other resources, so as to limit their independence
repeated threats of abandonment, divorce, start of another relationship if the
woman does not satisfy certain requests
