THE KIDNAPPED VOICES CAMPAIGN
BACKGROUND
Herbin Hoyos, War Journalist and Reporter for eleven international conflicts.
It all started 14 years ago, when a twist of fate turned his life. Hoyos Medina
was hosting a program on Caracol, when three people showed up claiming an
alleged prize. In actuality, they were members of FARC, and this confusing
episode ended with his abduction.
The worst hell would last 17 days. Along with his captors, walking through the
jungle without food or rest, they finally reached the campsite were they would
stay. There, he met a farmer who had already been kidnapped for
several months who’s almost entire body was covered and tied to a tree, would
listen to the radio. He approached the farmer and introduced himself, he gave
him his name and said that he was a journalist. He told him he hosted a
program on Caracol. The farmer recognized him and was aware that he could
not finish his radio program last Sunday. The day of his abduction.
The nightmare ended when the army surrounded the group and
the guerillas were forced to release him. Four members of FARC were killed
and many were injured in the offensive attack that ended with his freedom.
A week after returning to Bogota, the journalist attended the radio station. He
related his abduction in detail, and called on all the families and friends of the
hostages to do the same.
"The program came to bring the country out of fear and allowed to display the
abduction issue. Until then, no one talked about it for fear of reprisals”,
said Hoyos Medina.
Over the years, and the exponential increase in the number of hostages by
the FARC, ELN and paramilitary militias, added listeners to the radio program.
To the families of some of the hostages, whom every Sunday leave between
500 and 700 phone messages, it became a weekly appointment with your loved
ones: love messages, support and loyalty, try to break through the barriers of
distance and time.

HOW DO WE DO IT
Through a television commercial that lasts a maximum of 3 minutes.
STORY LINE
The commercial will be made with narratives of his audio program “The
Kidnapped Voices” and images of many of the actions he has done, like driving
a motorcycle through the entire country demanding the release of the hostages.
