RESEARCH/INTRO-FATIMA
HOW PREVALENT IS THE PROBLEM?
• Over 670 million of the world’s
    population are visually impaired
    • Lack of glasses
    • 153 million b/c they are short- or
       long-sighted
 Conditions that can be treated
          easily with a pair of
          prescription glasses.
 Children & women are majority
  affected by lack of glasses.
 13 million children need glasses
     worldwide
 Women make up majority of
     visually impaired; simply do not
     have access to glasses.
 In fact, 90% of people who are
  visually impaired are because they
  live in low socioeconomic countries
and do not have glasses available to
  them
WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES TO THE PROBLEM?
                       • The results of poor or
                         uncorrected vision are
                         dreadful.
                          • For example, children lose
                            opportunity to earn education;
                            their sight prevents them from
                            learning.
                          • Each year, economy and
                            individuals suffer
                             • Due to inability to go to
                               school and work due to
                               poor sight.
                          • Research done regarding
                            how much money is lost
                            when employees cannot work
                            due to poor vision
                             • Totals =$768.09 per person
                               per year.
WHY CAN’T PEOPLE GET GLASSES?
• Main reasons people cannot get
  glasses in low-and middle-
  income countries:
   • Lack of trained eye care
     professionals
   • Inadequate facilities to get an
     eye test and to manufacture
     glasses
   • High cost of glasses is often too
     expensive for average citizen
• With all of this research in mind,
  our team
   • knew that something needed to
be done in order to provide
those in need with the right
     glasses for them
   • developed the company Eye-C.
WHAT IS EYE-C?
• Eye-C is a non-profit
  organization that is responsible
  for the manufacturing and
  distribution of sunglasses and
  prescription eyeglasses.

• Each pair of glasses that is
made is produced in the United
  States supporting the economy
  and the jobs instead of
  outsourcing them to other
  countries.
WHAT DO WE (EYE-C) DO?
                   • Currently, Eye-C has
                      • business investors and donors
                          passionate about the cause.
                      • enough capital to fill orders around the
                          country and in Europe.
                      • partnered up with several eyewear
companies such as Pearle Vision, For
Eyes, and VisionWorks in order to
                          restock our product on shelves
                      • branded the product; people are
                          constantly reminded about their impact
                      • created a diverse eyewear
                      • recently come out with our holiday
                          collection.
                    Buyer Incentive:
 If someone purchases two pairs of shoes
in the same order, will ship for free within
                       US
                    Goal:
 To provide those who are wearing an
Eye-C pair of glasses style and sight
 To start adding designer glasses to our
HOW DO WE KNOW THIS WILL WORK?
• We know this model will
  work
   • inspired by a similar model
     created by the team at
     TOMS shoes
   • focuses on providing
     shoes to the millions who
     do not have shoes
     worldwide.
   • Each pair of TOMS shoes
     that are sold, TOMS ships
a pair to a person in need
     in countries such as
     Honduras, Iraq, Argentina,
     and India.

HOW DOES OUR PRODUCT EFFECT THE
     ECONOMY?
• The percentage of Americans wearing over-the-counter glasses increased
    during the recent economic downturn
     • Age of Americans wearing over-the-counter glasses increased during the
       recent economic downturn.
• Over the counter glasses are considered first step toward prescription
glasses for many consumers in denial about the state of their vision
• Because of lower prices, growing number of Americans choosing over the
counter readers as a form of vision correction.
• For millions in the US, buying Over The Counter readers is first stop on the
road to wearing progressive addition lenses.
HOW WILL WE MARKET THE PRODUCT?
                    • OTC readers have severe
                        limitations, but they do allow
                        some presbyopia to postpone
                        buying expensive prescription
glasses, at least for a while.

                    • Eye-C is going to be available
                        for people and the added
advantage of the good you can
do giving to someone who is
                        less fortunate.

                    • Through our clubs and
                        advertisements through
                        college campuses we are also
going to be marketing in other
                        places

                    • We are going to market in Wal-
                        Mart, Target etc
HAVE WE CREATED AN EYE-C CLUB ON
CAMPUS?
• Banners and advertisements to
    represent the eye wear
     • so that people who are in denial will
see our glasses and wont neglect it
as much and will want to try glasses
because it is not out of their price
       range.
• Eye-C will be marketed at colleges
and there will be clubs for people to
join so they can be part of the Eye-C
    movement
• College students are what a lot of
high school kids look up to
     • broader market advertising to all ages
and people wanting to join to make a
       difference.
ADVERTISING-NICK
HOW WILL WE MAKE OUR YOUTUBE VIDEO ‘GO
     VIRAL’?
• When Judson Laipply posted his six-
    minute “Evolution of Dance” to
YouTube in April of 2006, he didn't
    advertise it at all
     • One month later, someone noticed his
frenzied moves and e-mailed it to a
friend. That friend e-mailed to other
friends and more than 100 million views
       later, the rest is history.
• Fast forward six years, and viral video
sensations are not so easy to come by.
• But for most videos, standing out in the
crowd is a tricky balance between trying
too hard and not trying enough.
WHAT IS THE KEY TO OUR ADVERTISING?
• The key is to master the art of subtle
    marketing.
• Web-savvy audiences quickly
    dismiss disingenuous marketing;
    such as Trident’s unsuccessful
    fictitious television show trailer
    videos.
• EYE-C won’t make the same
    mistakes other companies have
made in trying to attract foot traffic
• Many popular online videos are
short – under three minutes – and
    have some elements of cognitive
    dissonance
THEORY-ARI
WHAT IS AN IDEOLOGY?
• A function that works
  to convince its
  audiences that the
  ideas it offers up are
   • timeless and
      historical
• Influence and
  determine
  communication
  practices
   • in a way that
      determine
      consciousness and
(1) WHAT IDEOLOGIES ARE EMPLOYED IN OUR
      PRODUCT?
• Within the basis of Eye-C,
     ideologies were employed
     into its creation with the
     contexts and beliefs of
     Karl Marx
    • Created a product that
       would benefit:
      • the receivers of the
         glasses
      • our nation
      • the workers
      • those that were
         purchasing the glasses
      • and the receivers of the
         glasses.
(2) WHAT IDEOLOGIES ARE EMPLOYED IN OUR
    PRODUCT?
• The utilitarianism principle,
    stated by John Stuart Mill
• Marx and Mill go hand in
    hand
    • the greatest good for
       the greatest amount of
       people.
• Our aim: to benefit
    everyone that was
    involved with the product
    • Result: no downfall to
       the product or flaw in
       its production
       processes.
HOW DOES EYE-C IMPLEMENT MARX’S
THEORY?
                 • American workers produce
                    product
                      • No outsourcing
                      • US benefits by contribution to
                        employment
                   • Each step offers something for
                     community, the people, and less
                     fortunate.
                   • Marx believed capitalists and
workers part of a team or
                     community helping
                      • create wealth for everyone
                      • Helping nation prosper.
                      • By hiring workers within our
                        nation, Eye-C employs Marx
                        ideals into the fundamentals of
HOW DOES EYE-C IMPLEMENT MARX’S
    THEORY?
• Eye-C profits off one one pair
   of glasses
     • BUT also share our wealth
       for mankind.
• Marx theory:
     • Share wealth equally to the
       community to give best living
standards to all in need of
       glasses and diminished eye
       sight.
     • Equal distribution of wealth
       could further a society
• Our company wants to further
  this vision.
IN CONCLUSION…
• By employing United States workers and avoiding
outsourcing, donating a pair of glasses to those in
need, and helping the national unemployment rate
decrease, our company will further the bettering for
  everyone’s well being.
