2. Biomedical Science is a discipline that examines the functions of human body from
the molecular to the genetic, cellular and structural level in health and diseases.
Disease onset, course, prevention and cure are thoroughly studied through proper use
of diagnostic procedures and state of the art technology.
The UKM degree in Biomedical Science is a four year programme accredited by the
Institute of Biomedical Science U.K. (IBMS) and the Malaysian Accreditation Board.
The programme offers students the latest information and technology in medical,
health and biomedical research. Courses in anatomy, biochemistry, epidemiology,
genetics, pathology, physiology, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, toxicology,
molecular techniques and analytical statistics provide foundation to understand the
effects of diseases on the structure and function of human body. Throughout their
studies students will be exposed to and will gain skills in research and laboratory
management.
The program also prepares them with real world experience by undergoing 3-4 months
of practical training or internship in hospital and industrial laboratories. In the final
year of studies, they are required to complete an honors level research project.
Graduates from this program will find careers in research laboratories, industries and
health related sectors.
