Farhad Hakimzadeh on Farsi, the
Modern Persian Language in Iran
●   The earliest forms of Farsi, a Persian
    language branching from the Indo-Iranian
    language group, are found in Zoroastrian
    sacred scriptures.
●   Today, 60 percent of the population in Iran
    speaks Farsi. Farsi and a related dialect, Dari,
    are also widely spoken in Afghanistan, and
    speakers of Farsi in its archaic forms can be
    found in the Pamir Mountains and Tajik.
●   There are around 110 million speakers of
    Farsi in the world today.
●   Farsi is written in a cursive style.
●   Words travel from right to left, whereas
    numbers are deciphered from left to right.
●   It utilizes the abjad writing system, in which
    letters represent only consonants and long
    vowels.
