Running Head: Steve Jobs’ Speech
Steve Jobs’ speech
Amwaj Albahar
Wright State University
The paper concerns life stories by Steve Jobs. He was invited in
a graduation ceremony at Stanford University. He is known for
effective motivating speeches. During the 2005 graduation
event, he gave three encouraging life stories. The Graduates
were enthusiastic and encouraged to hear from him. The stories
marked a new life for many in the event. It motivated the
visitors, teachers, and the students present. Connecting the dots,
the story about love and lose, and living the life without fear of
death are the three encouraging stories that mentioned by jobs’
speech.
He talked on his extraordinary birth and socialization. The
speech articulates birth of the writer by a college single mother.
He says the mother gave him out for adoption. It was difficult to
get suitable parents to raise him. According to the Steve jobs’
speech 2005, ”She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by
college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be
adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife.”(p.1) Although
Steve’s mother wanted college graduates, the available wanted
baby girl. He narrates the fact that there was the couple that
offered to adopt the little poor boy, but less educated. Jobs
clarify they never graduated from the university and the mother
disqualified them. Comment by Alex: Period comes after the (
)
The story is interesting and the parents were determined that
they promised to take the boy to college. Although they never
graduated from college they valued education. The story on
connecting the dots is effective in encouraging the youths. It
helps graduates understand the present situation does not
determine one’s future. The parents later took the boy to the
college, but he dropped out.
Steve says the college was expensive and poorly promising. He
had no interest on the full time courses offered and the parents
were straining. He started connecting the dots when he dropped
in Reed school and started computer design classes. He worked
in a team and the course was interesting. He found that the
machine design was his desire. Therefore, he made the most
attractive computer graphics that is currently used in the world.
Based the discussion on the entire story on connecting dots,
Steve Job’s is a very interesting and effective speaker. He
helped the students note life is what an individual makes it. The
origin or past situation does not determine the destiny of a
person. He encouraged the students to be aggressive and
decisive. The Story indicates the dots are connected backward.
Steve noted his success when he looked at the present and past
life. The adoptive parents had rejected him and gave him out.
His parents did not have college educations and they were poor.
However, he emerged the pioneer of global computer graphics.
This was the second life story given by Steve Jobs to the
students. It concerns the love for everything that a person is
doing. People should understand the areas of their interest and
work hard to achieve their goals. They should understand what
makes them happy and work hard to make efficient goals. This
story is efficient in establishing good business spirit. It helps
the students understand they should like their jobs and always
strive toward success.
“I was a very public failure,... I had been rejected, but I was
still in love. And so I decided to start over.”(jobs,2005,p.2) .
Failure does not determine people’s destiny. Although he was
fired from the company of his love, he started Next Company
concerning technology. He got the love of his life and joined
Apple for technology advancement. He is currently living a
happy life. Steve has family and job that satisfies him. Steve
loved Apple and made great profits and development from the
company. He failed public bur never gave up. Therefore, the
story is credited for great information on hard work and love for
everything an individual does in life. It encourages readers
understand the ups and down in life. Life is never smooth but
depends on how an individual handles the challenges. People
can discourage a person, but they should rise and make the
necessary and intelligent decisions. Love for work and
positively taking threats leads to success in life.
The story by jobs explains death and achievements. It argues
people fear death but all have their destiny in the death. People
are expected to work hard and never leave room for tomorrow.
Death can approach any time, but people should never fear its
impact. Everybody should put emphasis on the goals before
death.
He gave a quote on living every day as the final day. Everybody
should evaluate their actions and choose to live a life that if he
or she died they would not regret. The future generation should
celebrate a life that an individual has lived and appreciate the
good work done. Therefore, “live as if you are dying today”
(jobs, 2005). People should do everything that they would do if
they were told that was the last day in life. Steve was
encouraged by the fact that he would be dead one time. This
thought has promoted important choices and development.
It was observed the all pride do not contribute to the success in
life. The fear of embarrassment and failure should not stop
people from making critical and efficient decisions. Scholars
have noted the external factors are never important and fade
away very fast. Therefore, people should be propelled by
internal forced in decision making. In the face of death pride
and failure will cease existence and the success of a person will
be much appreciated. Therefore, people should follow their
hearts in making decisions. They should not worry of taking by
the surrounding people. Steve argued people would always
discourage an individual and work hard to stop their progress.
The story is also efficient and motivating. It suited the situation
and helped the students learn everybody will face death.
Although all fear death, it is the human kind destiny. It
encouraged all to live their lives and achieve their life goals.
They should not copy other lifestyles. All were told to live as
their standards and promote the development of life goals and
global growth.
The issue about Steward and his team was the closing remarks.
It was great and helped the learners to yearn for great things.
The speaker articulated Steward and his team was very
adventurous and made a publication on the global catalogue.
“Beneath it were the words: “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” It was
their farewell message as they signed off.” (jobs,2005,p.4)
Therefore, it was advisable for the graduates to be hungry for
knowledge. They were advised never to follow other people’s
lives, but work hard and be hungry for new ideas.
In conclusion, the article is effective in the event. The story on
connecting the dots helped the graduates understand success in
life. They should never worry about their past and origin. Dots
are well connected when a person starts at the end and works
their way backwards. The Love and loss story describe the
importance of respecting worry. Everybody should have interest
in their work. Love for duties promotes success and
achievement of life goals. The challenges that limit success
should be taken positively. Therefore loss should not be
magnified in life. Loss of job made Steve n important person in
the world. Death is not good, but people should work for
success before death. Human beings are afraid of death but all
have to die.

Comments: Amwaj, you have some good points, but you need
more support to make them excellent. The thesis is not specific
enough to describe the “HOW.” Also, you conclusion needs to
do more than just summarize.
