4. Who is Ahlu Ssunnah
 أشاعرة was an Islamic sect. They defended Islamic creed and
 There was another group called ماتريدية which was similar to
Asha’ira in Aqeeda. This two groups were called Ahlu Ssunnah.
 In the later periods, Four Fiqh madh’hab also become branches
of Ahlu Ssunnah. Majority of Muslim nation following one of
those two groups in Aqeeda and one of the four Madaahib in
Fiqh.
 So, ما أنا عليه وأصحابي and السواد الأعظم only applies to أشاعرة and

 Ahlussunna is a Manhaj. Whoever admit that manhaj is Sunni.

6. Does Salafis deserve the name
Sunnis?
 Modern Salafis prefer to call themselves as ‘Ahlu Ssunna’
 In Islamic books, Salaf is referred to a speicific period, not for a
sect or group
 Salafism is not a manhaj, rather it tries to oppose any Manhaj.
 Following Quran and Sunnah in Aqeeda and Fiqh without a
Manhaj is impossible. So salafis are not following Quran and
Sunnah
 Salafi trend appeared after the emerge of Ibn Taimiya.

7. Salafis vs Ahlu Ssuna in Aqeedah
 Salafi: the verses like الرحمن على العرش استوى are
description of Allah and we have to believe as it
is without any interpretation.
 Sunni: Such verses either we have to regard
them as Mutashabihaat(meaning known only
to Allah) or we have to interpret it suitable
manner.
The result is that Salafis attribute the face, leg and
hand to Allah, while Suunis categorically deny it.

8. Salafis vs Ahlu Ssuna in Fiqh
 Salafi: There is no need to follow a
methodology (madh’hab) in deriving the
rulings from Quran and Sunnah.
 Sunni: All fiqh rulings from Quran should
be based on one of the four Madh’habs.
 Salafis: ascribing to a Madh’hab is Bid’a
 Sunni: ascribing to a Madh’ab is a
necessity

9. History of Salafis and Sunnis
 Salafi: their history begins with the emerge of Ibn Taimiya
(seventh century)and it become stronger after Ibn Abdul
Wahhab.
 Sunni: Ahlussunna began as a methodology at least in
second century.
 Salafis: very few scholars after ibn taimiya accepted the
idea of Salafism
 Sunni: Majority of Ummah including known scholar like
Imam Shafi, Imam Nawawi were of Sunnis.

 There is big difference between real Salaf of first three
century and modern Salafi movement
 Salafism leads to disorder of Islamic principles maintained
from the period of the Prophet (S.A.S)
 A Muslim should follow the path of majority of the
community followed across the fourteen centuries; that is
the way of Ashaaira and Maturidyia in aqeedah and one of
the four mad’hab in fiqh.
