A python library for impact story
Impact Story is a great service that allows users to create a profile which links their accounts from other web services such as
Github, Slideshare Google Scholar and even Twitter and displays different project from each place as well as extracts any metric information associated with each project. So if you link your Github account, for instance, all of your software projects will be displayed on your profile as well as information about how many times it’s forked.
So unlink traditional ways of assessing academic impact, like peer-review or citation count, ImpactStory acknowledges that impact
So Impact Story is great because it acknowleges that a scientistist academic impact is so much more than just peer-reivew or citation count and inludes metrics from these social media outlets which are becoming exponentially relavent as time goes on.
And from your IS profile, this metric information is easily accessable by hovering over the ‘highly cited’ or ‘highly viewed’ associated with each project.
The developers have provided all of the project or metric information for any given user by providing a downloadable json file.
And so the extraction of all this information is amazing. Opening up scholarship’s filters beyond peer-reviews or citation counts to a more inclusive system expands our interpretation of what an academic’s impact is and as ws scholarship becomes more and more entrenched in the online community, online services like Impact Sotry and Altmetrics that integrate all of the ways an article can impact the world is becoming more and more important.
