The 21st century is no doubt the century of Smart Phones. It’s a revolution and ‘evolution’ that started way back in 1937 when the first ‘electronic digital computer’ was designed and build by Dr. John V. Atanasoff and Clifford Berry. When the world clocked a millennium, mobile phones became more sophisticated and some were modified to take pictures & had access to the internet. In 2007, Apple introduced the iPhone (which uses iTouch technology that allows you to make a call by simply tapping a name on your address book). There are different types of smart phones: Blackberry, Nokia, & Samsung Smart phones.
Smart Phones have become an essential working tool for an ordinary person in business or work place. Considering the number of specialized functions that Smart Phones can offer, having the device in you pocket can as well be termed as ‘having a mobile office.’ These management functions include: an appointment book, an address book, a calculator, a calendar, an organizer just to mention a few. By having all this at the palm of your hand someone becomes time conscious.Skype using the phone is now becoming common with people working at different geographical areas. This cuts travel costs and allows for quick consultation also. Some smart phones can be connected to intranet at work places. This enables employees to access information about their organization in their respective portal.
Smart phones have had a great impact on the social lives of many people. Since smart phones are internet enabled, one is able to use social networks such as Facebook to chat and share pictures with their friends. This has increased social ties between people who are geographically far from each other. People are more informed with what’s going on elswhere in the world.
