Mental Illness Group
The group that presented about mental illness consisted of Emily (myself), Kat, Robyn,
and Nick. Overall our group was productive and got the job done, although there were some
minor setbacks. I was lucky to be a part of a group with people with such strong ideas. The
following paragraphs are how I felt about their work in the group.
First, I will rate Kat. I believe that Kat deserves a two. I think that she deserves this rating
for a few reasons. She would come to class consistently, however she did not always have the
work done. When her work was finished it was good work, but it seemed as if it was not always
done on time. Also, when we presented our speech she was not prepared with note cards and had
no choice but to use her formal outline on her laptop. Despite these few issues, she was a good
group member and was respectful to everyone in the group. That is why I believe she deserves a
two.
Second, I will rate Robyn. I believe that Robyn deserves a three. Robyn was always in
class and she always came prepared. She was the one who was to introduce and conclude our
speech so it was difficult for her to write her part without the rest of the group's work, but she got
it done and she did her work well. Also, when we had group time she contributed greatly and
treated everyone in the group with respect. That is why I believe that Robyn deserves a three.
Third, I will rate Nick. I believe that Nick deserves a two. Nick always put forth the best
effort in the group and always had his work done. However, he seemed to always want to be in

control. Although this is just his nature, at times it seemed like he was bossing the rest of the
group around. Nick was always in class and always willing to do the work he needed to do, but
he did not treat the group with equality until the very end of the project and that is why I believe
that he deserves a two.
Lastly, I will rate myself. I personally believe that I deserve a two. I always had my work
done and did the best work that I could, but I missed quite a few classes. Although this did not
seem to hold my group back I still believe that by missing so many classes I was not the perfect
group member. I also believe that I was respectful to my group members and I did the best I
could to take charge and make sure everyone had everything ready to go for the speech. That is
why I believe I deserve a two.
I believe that my specific group was a great group. We all have strong personalities and
that made the group interesting and lively. We always participated as much as we could and all
put forth effort to make sure we were getting the work done. Although there was a point where
our group seemed to get out of synch and have some issues, we got it together and got the work
done and performed a great speech. I believe that this group speech experience in WRD111 is
great because giving a group speech is a wonderful skill to have. It is not always easy to work in
a group, especially with people you do not know that well, and that is why it is great that we now
have done this and have practice doing this. Through this experience I have learned that it is very
important to make sure that all members of a group have equal responsibilities and treat each
other equally. It is good to have a leader, but not in a way that they are the "boss" of all of the
other members. I also learned that it is good to have specific deadlines that are ahead of the
actual deadline so that all members can discuss their work and make sure it all makes sense
together. Overall this experience was great and I learned a lot about group work as a whole.
