2. Brief summary.
• Our documentary is about the religious group
Mormons. The intention of our documentary is to
inform the audience of the religion and to show
they are not as different as people might think
and their lifestyle is also very similar to ours with
only a few minor differences.
3. Similar styles.
The style of the documentary is similar to the documentary “Meet the
Mormons” because it has the same subject matter and shows that whilst at
home Mormons live very normal lives, which is what our documentary is trying
to show.
It is also in a similar style to Louis Theroux’s documentaries as it is reflexive
with expository content which is the style we would like to film our
documentary.
Another documentary is Catfish as we will have a few similar stylistic features
such as montages and short clips of what will happen later on the show (after
the break) so that the audience is intrigued and will want to find out what will
happen.
4. Actors.
The actors we have chosen are:
Andrew Brumpton (M)
Matt Russell (M)
Tiffany Dudley (M)
Sophie Trievnor
The general public
5. Locations:
The locations we will use are:
A Mormon church, this will be used as a representation of how people perceive the Mormon
religion (all about religion/different to us all)
The common room as we want to ask questions and do a montage of the responses and the
common room as it is a normal everyday place which is what we want the audience to see
that people who are pat of this religion are no different from us
Weybridge high street/ Staines shopping center, again these are both normal everyday
places which you might also find Mormons, we are showing that they are just people who
do everyday thing like us and also there is a church in Staines which could represent the
Mormon religion being part of the “community”
We will also film in some of our interviewees homes or places they find normal to them, to
represent the interviewee to the audience, so they can can see (Mormons/ Non Mormons)
that there is little difference between lives.
6. Costumes/Props.
There will be no set costumes, interviewees will be in
their own clothes to show their role as normal
people, to show the similarities between the
subjects.
The only prop we will be using will be one book of
Mormon in the opening title to help emphasize the
subject of the documentary.
7. Shot list.
The shots we will use will be:
Shot reverse shot for the interviews to show questions and responses.
Panning shots to show the church so we will be able to show it all and
it will go well with a voice over narration.
Establishing shots to show where the interviews will be taking place.
Steady cam because we want to show a difference (informality) to
the questions/answers in the montages to the actual official
interviews.
8. Story Board.
1. Opening introduction
2. Opening title sequence
3. Montage
4. Interview
5. Montage
6. Interview
7. Filming and narration(voiceover)
8. Interview
9. “After the break”
We will use this to show the different techniques we have learnt and also it will keep
the documentary interesting instead of interview after interview.
9. Timeline.
• We want to get all the planning done quite fast so that we have enough
time for for filming and editing. This will hopefully only take a few weeks
• Scripts will only take a few days as scripts aren't that hard to write and we
have a rough idea of what we would like to include.
• Filming will take a few days maximum a week as we have been planning
all summer who an where we will be filming so everything is planned and
we just need to film.
• We will leave the most time for editing as this takes the longest and is the
hardest. Also it means if we realize we need some last minute footage we
have enough time to go get it and edit to make the documentary look
good and polished.
10. Skills.
Skills we learnt last year:
We will use cameras, tri pods and maybe lighting.
We will use final cut pro .
We can edit songs to fit in with our documentary.
I’m hoping my editing skills will improve to make a better
final piece.
