Working title – the title for this second film idea is “Locked in”. I chose to call it this because the girl locks herself in with the killer. However the title doesn’t give too much away which will make people want to watch the film as they will want to know what happens in the film.
Length of film – my film is going to be a short film so about 5-10 minutes. This is so the viewers don’t get bored and will stay intrigued for the whole film.
Tagline - the tagline of my film will be “check the house before you lock the door”. This will give people a bit more information about the film as they can guess that someone will lock themselves inside the house with something dangerous but it still won’t give away everything.
Key characters – the main character is going to be the daughter who has been left home alone by her parents. Her name is going to be ruby. She is going to be a stereotypical teenager who is very into social media, stays in her room she is quite moody and spends most of the time on her phone.
The next main character is going to be Jim he is going to be the guy who is coming to kill her he has had a crush on ruby for years but she doesn’t notice him and keeps piing him off which makes him angry.
There is the dad who is called Nick. He is a business man which makes him quite wealthy.
Lastly is the step mum who is called Jackie and she doesn’t get on well with ruby at all. She is a stay at home mum and is much younger then Nick and Ruby’s real mum.
Target audience – the target audience is going to be anyone who like horror films or short films. It is targeted mainly at teenagers as they will have less money so they will be more interested in short films on YouTube as they will be free. This will also get my short film more views overall.
Form and style – I am going to shoot this film in the evening so it is dark and it will add to the suspense of the film. As I have no money I am going to shoot on a hand held camera but may use a tripod for some shots so it is steady. I am going to add music for a creepy effect and quick editing to keep the viewers on their toes.
Marketplace – I am going to post this film on YouTube as I think that is where it will do best as lots of teenagers and university students will be able to watch it for free instead of having to go to pay in the cinema.
Act 1 - the film starts off with ruby in her bedroom. She is watching YouTube on her laptop and is snapchatting her friends on her phone. She then gets a snapchat from Jim and there is a mask in the background but she doesn’t notice it and reads him off. She also gets a couple of snapchats from some of her friends at the same time. Nick then yells at her to go downstairs. She goes down stairs and Nick says how he and Jackie are going out for a meal and she will be left home alone. Ruby has a little bit of a rant about all he cares about is her step mum and he never pays attention to her anymore then she goes back to her room and the dad and step mum go out.
Act 2 – ruby locks the front door and goes into the kitchen to get a drink and some food and then she goes back up to her room but her window is now open but she puts it down to the wind blowing it open as it is very windy outside. She goes to close the window and then sits on her bed and starts watching YouTube again. She then starts getting texts from an unknown number hinting to her that the person sending the messages is in her house.
Act 3 – Ruby runs downstairs and goes to unlock the door so she can get out but the door is locked and the key is now missing. She runs into the kitchen to grab a knife and then she calls her dad. She tells him everything and he says he will hurry home. She then runs back upstairs to the toilet and locks herself in there while still getting messages from the person in her house. The person then messages her telling her they know she’s in the toilet so she then runs downstairs and she trips on the way down and gets knocked out. She wakes up and she is in her lounge tied up and the person is stood there in front of her with the same mask that was in the picture Jim sent. The person is talking to her about how he is sick of popular girls not even noticing normal boys like him. He takes his mask of and it is indeed Jim. She is now looking around and notices a can of petrol in the corner and the petrol has been spilt all around the living room. A car then pulls up outside and the door starts to be unlocked so Jim pulls out a lighter and is about to drop it then the screen goes black.
