Good evening everyone and welcome to the SA Business Club
My name is Elizabeth Bethlehem / founder of the club
Very excited that you could all be here
This idea has been a bee in my bonnet for quite some years
I sincerely hope you’ll find it useful, make connections, feel free to ask questions
This evening’s programme will be as follows…
Before I delve into my talk about the importance of website content I want to talk briefly about the purpose of the business club
Turkish Women’s Business Club
The main purpose > support small/medium sized businesses in their business efforts
Training/workshops will form a large role
Knowledge-transfer
Networking
Grassroots club
Frequency > survey
Outline of what I will discuss
How many of you solely run your company’s own website/marketing activities?
Own story – I’ve always had a small business (but the last few years have been formative for me)
KLM
Own story / How I started (writing/execution to training)
What is my strongest asset – the English language, communication and online marketing
What do I love?
Big turning point for me - Everything I was doing for other companies in terms of marketing and communication, I decided to do for my own website/company
Created basic training packages to teach marketing teams how to write more effectively in English
* Helped me get more leads in Google and rank for certain keywords (things you type into Google)
Today – problem with too many online channels
Harder to reach audience on social media without paid ads (FB)
Website NB.
2 main types of marketing to get you customers
Content marketing and Digital Marketing
Various ways to generate customers (traditional and non-traditional)
You need to keep thinking – how can I solve a problem for my searches/audience?
I’ll show a non-traditional way which is becoming very NB for businesses > optimizing your website for leads
This is a mini-training of sorts (assumes you have access to your business’ website) – Wordpress.org
Running ads
Show you the differences (next slide)
Keyword search in Google (SEO)
Ads are useful when the competition for keywords/search terms is high or when the company’s website is weak
Most small businesses cannot afford ads in the beginning
Scroll almost half way down – these are the smart companies (no ads, great SEO optimization) / worked hard on their websites
Use Google Analytics
Easier way if you’re just starting is to use SEO Moz’s free keyword explorer tool
Type in a keyword (something you think people are looking for)
* Quite a few good keywords > different pages for different keywords (easiest/neatest way is to blog)
Can’t just write a page for your website with what you deem important.
Know what people are typing in (research) – using the tools like SEO Moz, Google Analytics
SEO tactics to implement
* Capitalise on more technical aspects of SEO (for products)
Welcome Mr Peter de Ruiter, MD of NABC (Netherlands Africa Business Council) – our host for this evening.
For the last few years, Mr de Ruiter has served as MD of NABC. Prior to that he served as a senior partner EY and PwC and is also a qualified tax lawyer.
Peter has a strong affiliation with Africa and believes that the private sector plays a crucial role in the development of Africa.
He will give an introduction to the Nabc and the inspiring work done by them.
Welcome Mrs Zoe Dlamini-Sas – a cultural entrepreneur from Eswatini (Swaziland)
She’s doing some amazing things by promoting Eswatini culture in the Netherlands. She serves as a board member of the ATB (African Tourism Board). She also recently became the regional and country winner of the 2019 Africa's most influential woman in business and Government.
Today she will tell us a bit about her business and passion – so a bit of inspiration to business owners (or even those wanting to start a business in the Netherlands)
Big thank you to all our sponsors – some of them couldn’t be here (Nwabisa sponsored the goodie bag). Pardon is here with SA wines. Thanks ever so much.
