1. WING IT
Not since the Age of Aquarius have iridescent shadows shimmered so brightly. From pewter, copper and gold at Oscar de la Renta and Louis Vuitton to
aqua, turquoise and emerald at Gucci, a resurgence of luminescent lids were seen all over the runways this season. To create a look with metallic appeal,
Ayako, International Makeup Director for NARS, recommends applying a cream eyeshadow as a base then layering shimmery powders over top. “It gives
a sheer and iridescent creamy finish,” says Ayako, “and makes the eye look more transparent and in turn more modern.” Lilac is one of the trendy colours for
spring, notes Ayako, who suggests shades that are smoky in hue rather than the fresh and pastel tones, for a look that’s innocent with an edge. To create

“The copper eye is the equivalent to the LBD. It’s universally flattering on all skin tones and matches almost any lip colour,” says makeup artist Diana Carreiro,
who created the looks on these pages. To add dimension to the eye, she suggests choosing three complementary shades to highlight, contour and line the
eye. “Start with the medium tone and blend it over the entire lid area up to the browbone,” says Carreiro. “Next, brush the lightest shadow over the browbone
and inner corner of the eye and blend the darkest shadow at the lash line and outer corner of the eye crease.” For added intensity, rim the outer corner of
the eye with black liner and smudge. With the primary focus on the eye, skin should be kept fresh and light with minimal blush. Lips remain natural with only
a soft dab of lipstick or gloss, Carreiro recommends a sheer beige or peachy tone.

3. Iridescent shadows were taken to the max at Gucci’s Spring 2009 show as models paraded down the runway with seductive aquatic stares. For a softer take
on this saturated evening eye, makeup artist Diana Carreiro dusted Micabella Shimmer Powder in SP88 Vibrance, $15, onto the crease, browbone and inner
corner of the eye. Next, she blended NARS Cream Eyeshadow in Carioca, $26, over the entire lid area, fading the cream colour up to the outer corner of the
eye. Lastly, to add dimension, Carreiro rimmed upper and lower lash lines with turquoise shadow from Clarins Nature Temptations Eye Colour Palette, $44.
