A22 Origami Workshops
1. Origami finger game – “Cootie Catcher”
The students made their own origami finger games.
Under the
folds they
wrote
instructions
connected
to math.
E.g. “Draw a square inside a circle”, “Draw three parallel straight lines” etc.
After they finished they paired up
and played a drawing game. One of
the students was playing the
“cootie catcher” and the other one
had to follow the instructions
written under the folds, and draw
all the elements on an A3 paper.
Their
aim
was to draw all these elements as they
came up, while trying to make a
balanced and interesting
composition.
More uses for Origami finger game
Use origami finger game to respond to and talk about artworks. Give students
postcards/printouts of artwork and an origami finger game with math related
questions (about lines, shapes, motifs etc) under the folds. In pairs they take
turns and answer the questions.
2. Origami animal workshops
We used youtube videos to make easy origami animals. The focus was narrating
the instructions trying to include math language, concepts and questions during
the procedure.
