2. Age and gender
the majority of the people who
answered my survey were women.
There were 11 men which will help
my survey a little because it means I
have had some male feedback
about domestic violence in men
also. I also had quite a wide range
of ages answer my questions which
helps because I get a broad
selection of opinions and from
there being so many people 25+ it
may mean that people with more
experience have given me an
insight.
3. Experience
In terms of getting responses from
people with experience, I actually
ended up with more than I expected.
When people selected âyesâ to
question 4, I asked them which
gender the person who they knew
was, and a lot said female, but more
than I expected said male too. This
will help with my research because it
will give me ideas about how many
people are aware of domestic
violence in men and peopleâs
experiences and opinions.
4. Commonness
This question will particularly help with
my research because it shows what
knowledge people have about the facts
and figures of domestic violence in
men in comparison to women. The
questions shown here were closer to
the actual figures but a few people said
things like âNot very common because
men can defend themselves betterâ
which is the reason I am doing this
campaign, people think men cannot be
hurt because they are physically
stronger, this question has made me
realise how much more knowledge and
education people need about male
victims.
5. Knowledge
This question has helped
me realise that there are a
lot of people that need
more knowledge on
domestic violence in men.
6. Opinions
This question has encouraged
me to make my campaign really
show that domestic violence in
men and women are both as
important as eachother. This is
because there are a lot of
people that think women victims
are more important because
they âarenât as strongâ but I
want to make it clear to people
that it mentally and physically
affects men just as badly.
7. Opinions
My campaigns aim is to make
men speak out and make them
feel like they can speak out
more. One particular comment
encouraged me: âBecause men
are less likely to speak about itâ.
But this is because there are not
enough campaigns so they
probably do not feel as
important or like it matters. This
will help my research because it
has made me realise my main
focus.
8. Awareness
I was happy to see on this
question that a lot of people are
aware of help there is. Although
there are still a lot of people who
do not or who are not sure,
which is again why I am doing this
campaign, on the poster I create I
will put a number to call and an
email/website for people who
need it, because there are too
many people who do not know
who to turn to, especially men.
9. Opinions
Nearly all the people who answered my
survey answered yes to this question. The
3 people who said no gave reasoning like
âThey do not speak upâ or âThey do not
want to come forward and appear âweakâ
from being abused by a womanâ are the
people I am aiming my campaign at, (as
well as male victims of course), but not
just the victims, I would like to tackle the
ignorance in this social issue and stop
people from thinking that men donât
deserve awareness because âthey donât
speak upâ, the more we campaign for
them, the more they will feel supported
and the more they will possibly speak up.
