7. Survey participants were given a description of MOOCs as free online courses being
offered by some institutions, and while these courses often do not carry college credit,
they can provide students with a new skill or understanding of a subject area. About
80% of the students surveyed found MOOCs compelling; in fact, many found the
option very attractive.
The Massive Open Online Course, or MOOC, is a relatively new yet increasingly
popular way for people to learn. Most include online assessments of some kind,
ranging from simple participation activities such as posts on online forums to
cumulative exams and even essays. Some also offer a certificate of completion to
those who finish – and, in most cases, are willing to pay a fee to demonstrate what
they have done. At present, though, they are not part of any institution’s curriculum or
degree program. They are simply a way for people to educate themselves.

8. • Various technologies have made this kind of educational
environment possible, including ones that have existed for
some time as well as newer examples. Video footage of
lectures and demonstrations by faculty is an especially
common component in most distance learning platforms.
Tools designed to foster student interaction in online
learning platforms are also becoming popular.
• Web developers will adopt HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript
as a combination to create e-learning courses. The use of
mobile and tablet devices such as Apple and Android is
becoming a stronger trend. These popular brands both
support HTML5.
Emerging Technology Used for Online Classrooms
9. Currently, part of earning a
bachelors in nursing requires
completing clinicals. Most
nursing students today feel that
it’s hard to balance work and
school with completing their
clinicals. An online nursing
program in the future could
offer students the ability to
learn some of the procedures
via live streaming, which would
allow the ability to allocate
more time towards work.
Future Degrees Online:
a nursing degree requires clincials, but these could be learned online
10. Future Degrees Online:
a law degree requires courtroom training, but you could learn it online
Law students practicing
to become attorneys are
required to train in the
courtroom. An online
LLM program in the
future could allow
students to virtually be a
part of court hearings
anywhere. This could
provide them with more
flexible training so they
can allocate time
towards other classes
and work.
11. • It is estimated that by 2016, 22 million students will be enrolled in
college, with 20% of those being online enrollments.
• E-learning time is generally shorter than time spent in the classroom
by up to 25-60%, which could lead to an increase in the number of
degrees.
