Editor's Notes
Greet and welcome folks as they arrive, encouraging to grab some food and drink and find a seat.
JONES: Welcome! Revitalization is certainly happening, we see it all around us now. It is an exciting time to be on Jekyll Island. We need you to be excited as we prepare to serve our guests coming for spring break, vacations, conventions, weddings, and on and on. If you are not excited about what you are seeing, maybe you need to find another place to be. These rallies are geared toward getting you updared, providing the key points and information that you need to best serve our guests. Rumors, unknowns are not what we want. You need to be able to tell people clearly what us happening and where we are going. We have some information that delivers this to you, and as always we leave time for questions and answers. So enjoy the presentation, enjoy the food, get engaged and get ready! Revitalization is happening!
ERIC:Well, if you were here a year ago… you know it’s been an exciting year. If you weren’t, or if you blinked, we’ve compiled last year’s success into an 8 minute video. If a picture is worth a thousand words, you are about to see 180,000 words!
ERIC: Wow! Great stuff, look at what we accomplished – together! Applause, please! Hopefully you took part in the many celebrations shown in the video. So here is the list of all the great accomplishments from last year….
ERIC: Revitalization is all about replacing old with new, while keeping the “magic” of Jekyll intact. Here is a list of new facilities that were brought online last year.
ERIC: Alright, now what? What do we tell people about all those piles of dirt, road closed signs, barricades, etcetera. Well, the key point is that it may look bad, but it’s gonna be good. Just look at Great Dunes park and the convention center coming together, and you can tell it is going to be great!
ERIC: Take a look at these aerial shots of the construction, and you can really see things coming together. You can see the roads taking shape…..
ERIC: The footprint of the new convention center….
ERIC: The location along the beach…
ERIC: And here is a rendering of the new convention center – this is the entry from the village side
ERIC: Here is a 3d rendering of the interior – see the little turtle hatchlings that will be part of the terrazzo floor…..
ERIC: Here are some renderings of the village – this view from the entry roundabout….
ERIC: Another view from the entry on the bike path – you can see the idea of pedestrian scale with a lot of pedestrian activity.
ERIC: The village green area with the public plaza, a stage leading right out onto the beach. This is how pedestrians will come into the village along the beach boardwalk.

ERIC: So true, so true…. Especially on Jekyll Island!
ERIC: During the upcoming spring break, shoulder and summer seasons, the traffic detours will be in place. That includes speed limit changes to Riverview, Stable Road and Shell Road. We’ve reduced some areas down to 25mph to keep everyone safe. Beachview Drive up by the movie set will be changed back to 35 mph. The detours will not be eliminated until October 2011. Things will progress, some of the clutter will be removed as the Flash Foods area gets finished. But guests should be prepared for encountering this traffic change.
ERIC: It is important that guests, especially those in RVs ignore the directions given by their GPS. It will lead them right into the Club Hotel portecachere. We have a flyer out there that gives directions, of course we are a small place and someone is either going to get it or get lost probably just once.
ERIC: Bike Paths continue to be improved and expanded according to a Master Bike Path Plan. This plan has all the bike trails combing to create an entire circuit, and also replace old asphalt skinny paths with the current 8’ width minimum. Many will have the tabby concrete.
ERIC: So the work along Beachview Drive between Great Dunes Park and Blackbeard’s is underway. The path will connect to the path that goes into Mini Golf that is now just crushed stone. This will be paved with tabby concrete to tie the entire Great Dunes Park area together.
ERIC: The main point, construction will progress until we open in 2012. We are selling conventions into the new center in September 2012.
ERIC: Speaking of conventions, upon the groundbreaking of the new convention center in December 2010 we began to solicit ‘Letters of Intent” from conventions wanting to meet in the new convention center. A LOI is needed to hold their desired date. Who here is involved in selling group business on Jekyll Island? You ALL are involved, and I want you to stand up…. Give yourself a hand…. And give each other a high five for a great job! We have over 45 conventions that have signed Letters of Intent now!

ERIC: Alright, what’s next? If you brought a chisel and stone tablet, I’m going to ask that you put them down. As we discuss the plans, you need to know that nothing ever goes according to the original plan. Development, much like life I guess, is all about adapting to changes in the plans and adjusting schedules. We hold this information sessions so we can keep you abreast of those changes.
