Proverbs 27:13 Take his garment that is surety for a
stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange
woman.
(TLB) 13 The world’s poorest credit risk is the man
who agrees to pay a stranger’s debts.
People think they are just doing an easy favor.
But if they don’t pay, you are obligated.
3. 3
14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice,
rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a
curse to him.
Some people stay up late and sleep late.
They will not appreciate hearing from you early
in the morning.
Be considerate.
Others go to bed early.
4. 4
15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a
contentious woman are alike. 16 Whosoever hideth
her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right
hand, which bewrayeth itself.
(TLB) 15 A constant dripping on a rainy day and a
cranky woman are much alike! 16 You can no more
stop her complaints than you can stop the wind or
hold onto anything with oil-slick hands.
She is contentious; you can’t make
her be someone else.
5. 5
17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the
countenance of his friend.
Friendly discussion can make us see a
subject from another viewpoint.
We may change our viewpoint, or it may
become stronger as we discuss it.
6. 6
18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit
thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be
honored.
Do what you do do well.
Doing any task the best you can
will be rewarded.
7. 7
19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart
of man to man.
(NIV) 19 As water reflects a face, so a man's heart
reflects the man.
Matthew 12 34 O generation of vipers, how can ye,
being evil, speak good things? for out of the abun-
dance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good
man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth
forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil
treasure bringeth forth evil things.
8. 8
20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of
man are never satisfied.
It is human nature to always want more.
Only as we submit to the Holy Spirit can we
conquer this greed in us.
9. 9
21 As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for
gold; so is a man to his praise.
(TLB) 21 The purity of silver and gold can be
tested in a crucible, but a man is tested by his
reaction to men’s praise.
A fining pot or crucible is a container where
metals can be heated to very high temps.
10. 10
How a man responds to praise reveals his nature.
If he gloats over it, he shows himself to be
arrogant; he “knows” he is good. But if he accepts
the praise modestly, he shows his humility.

11. 11
22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar
among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his
foolishness depart from him.
Some people are such hardened sinners that
no amount of correction or punishment will
cause them to change.
12. 12
23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks,
and look well to thy herds. 24 For riches are not for
ever: and doth the crown endure to every
generation?
Keep records; know
what you have.
Look ahead; see what
you need.
13. 13
25 The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth
itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
26 The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are
the price of the field. 27 And thou shalt have goats'
milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy
household, and for the maintenance for thy
maidens.
God always provides, but what
do we do with His Provision?
