PMR IS POST GRADUATION MEDICAL CLINICAL SPECIALITY BRANCH WITH VAST PRACTICE SCOPE.
DUE TO LACK OF SPECIALTY PG SEATS IN INDIA A LACUNA CREATED IN THIS SPECIALTY.
NOW NATIONAL MEDICAL COMMISSION ORDERED TO ALL MEDICAL COLLEGES TO START MANDATORY PMR DEPARTMENT FOR FURTHER UG SEATS INCREMENT OTHERWISE NO SEAT INCREMENT.
DUE TO IT IN INDIA SCOPE OF BRANCH WILL SURGE.
PURPOSE OF THIS PRESENTATION IS TO INCREASE AWARENESS FOR EMERGING CLINICAL SPECIALTY AT MEDICAL GRADUATE LEVEL & GENERAL PUBLIC LEVEL..

3. INTRODUCTION
Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, SMS
Medical College, Jaipur, was established in 1977, under the
guidance of Dr P. K. Sethi and is one of the oldest and largest
department in India.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) also known as
Rehabilitation Medicine or Physiatry.
(Consultants called PMR PHYSICIANS/PHSIATRIST/PAIN
PHYSICIANS/REHABILITATION PHYSICIANS/
MUSCULOSKELETAL PHYSICIANS)
Aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of
life of those with various musculoskeletal disorders,(pain,
ailments, morbidities) Rhematological diseases, physical
impairments or disabilities( CTEV, CEREBRAL
PALSY,POST POLIO) affecting brain, spinal cord, nerves,
bones , joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.
4. At present, PMR department is having three Units with 7 Faculty members:

Dr. Mahesh Meena – Associate Professor
7 Medical officers, 3 Senior residents, 9 PG Doctors enters every year
through NEET PG ( 9 MD PMR seats: Highest in India)
Paramedics, Pharmacist, various allied health professionals as Psychologist,
physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, orthotics
/prosthetics etc works under PMR Physicians.

Dr P K Sethi was awarded the Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in
1981 and the “Padma Shri” by the Government of India in 1981 for his work on
“Jaipur foot”.

Outpatient services:- On an average 400 to
450 patients avail the OPD Services daily.

Spine and Brain injury management, Stroke,
low backache, arthritis, pain disorders, Diabetic
complications, pressure ulcer management.
Muscle, Bone, Tendon, Joint & Nerve diseases.
Sport injuries management
Cerebral palsy, congenital deformities:
CTEV/other foot deformities,
Post polio, Meningo-myelocoele, Amputees
management.

PMR Department is having 80 teaching beds.
The average indoor admission in a month is
around – 90 patients

diagnosis of PMR Physicians
