• Portal Circulation:
– Normally Arteries divide into capillaries.
– Capillaries coalesce to form veins.
– Veins drain into Rt. Atrium.
– This arrangement is present in whole of
the body.

• The vein again divides into capillaries
then again coalesce to form a vein which
drains into Right Atrium.
• This is termed as:
– PORTAL CIRCULATION
• This happens in:
1. Hypothalamus pituitary axis and
2. GI tract :- Portal vein.

Portal Vein--
• Forms behind neck of pancreas by union of
Superior mesenteric and Splenic Veins.
• Travels in free edge of lesser omentum
behind CBD and Hepatic artery.
• Enters liver.

It carries 75% of blood supply to liver.
