Established in 1997, the AAUCM supports the physicians who
practice urgent care medicine in a wide variety of settings. In
addition to providing educational resources for physicians, the
AAUCM makes patient education a priority. It maintains a
library of guides on a wide variety of common medical issues,
many targeted toward the parents of young children.

Influenza, the common cold, and other conditions that produce
sniffles are caused by viruses, not bacteria. Antibiotics are
only effective against bacteria and have no impact on viruses.
Unfortunately, many parents misunderstand this fact and insist
on antibiotics for their young ones. This contributes to
antibiotic resistance while failing to help the patient. The CDC
considers antibiotic resistance to be one of the most pressing
issues in public health.
