Overview of Bladder Carcinoma <ul><li>~ All arise from urothelial lining </li></ul><ul><li>Urothelial Ca.(TCC) - 90% all bladder cancers </li></ul><ul><li>SCC – 5 % </li></ul><ul><li>Adeno.Ca < 2 % </li></ul><ul><li>< 3 % Non-Urothelial </li></ul><ul><li>- Neuroendocrine Carcinoma </li></ul><ul><li>- Leiomyosarcoma (a tumor arising from smooth muscle) </li></ul><ul><li>- Metastatic (Lymphoma ,Malignant melanoma etc ) </li></ul>University of Limpopo – MEDUNSA CAMPUS

Neuroendocrine carcinoma - Bladder <ul><li>Carcinoid tumors </li></ul><ul><li>Large cell neuroendocrine carcinomas, and </li></ul><ul><li>Small cell carcinomas. </li></ul><ul><li>Male patients & coexist with urothelial carcinoma </li></ul><ul><li>Small Cell Ca (SCC) of the urinary bladder was first described by Koss in 1975 . </li></ul><ul><li>SCC account for 0.5–0.7% of primary bladder tumours. </li></ul>
    4. 4. OBJECTIVES: <ul><li>A case report of a 40 year old female with a bladder tumour. </li></ul><ul><li>A transurethral resection of the tumour was performed and the specimen was sent for histopathology assessment. </li></ul><ul><li>Chest X-rays : Normal </li></ul>
    5. 5. Gross <ul><li>We received numerous fragments of brownish tissue fragments in fixed 10 % formalin . </li></ul><ul><li>The largest fragment measured 20 x 10 x 10mm </li></ul>
    6. 8. D.Dx <ul><li>Nested Variant of Urothelial Cell Carcinoma (TCC) </li></ul><ul><li>Small Cell Carcinoma of the Bladder </li></ul><ul><li>Sarcomatoid urothelial carcinoma </li></ul><ul><li>Metastatic Carcinoma </li></ul><ul><li>Lymphoma </li></ul><ul><li>Our Case Report </li></ul>
    7. 9. CONCLUSION <ul><li>Like SCLC, SCC of the urinary bladder is an aggressive tumour. </li></ul><ul><li>It has characteristic histological, & IHC features . </li></ul><ul><li>These aid in differentiating it from high-grade TCC and lymphoma. </li></ul>
