History Class XII Ch. 3 Kinship, Caste and Class (1).pptx
The earth’s internal energy
1. The Earth’s internal energy
Plate tectonics theory
Volcanos and Earthquakes
Folds and Faults
Rock cycle
2. How was the earth millions of years
ago?
• In 1912, Alfred Wegener proposed the
Continental Drift Theory.
Work in pairs, search information about this
theory and write a short paragraph (4 or 5 lines)
explaining it. Try to use the vocabulary from Key
Words I
Add some images to your explanation.
3. Key Words I
• Break up: separate into smaller pieces.
• Ocean ridge: underwater mountain system
• Endogenous rock: rock that is formed inside
the planet
• Drift: gradual movement
• Heat: high temperature
9. Plate tectonics theory
To understand this theory you need to do a
previous work, you can work in pairs:
1. Draw the different layers of the earth
according to their state (solid or fluid), from
the surface to the nucleus.
2. Name the layers and indicate: solid/fluid,
deep, temperature.
10. Plate tectonics theory
Read page 104 (Unit 5) of your textbook. Then,
working in pairs, you have to write a short
paragraph (max. 10 lines) explaining the Plate
Tectonics Theory. You have to talk about the
different layers and explain the convection currents.
Try to use the vocabulary from Key Words II
11. Key Words II
• Outermost part: The one that is far away from
the centre.
• To rise: go up.
• To descend: go down.
• Current: ordered directional movement.
• To displace: to move something from its usual
position.
13. Exam task
Work in groups of 4.
• Compare your explanations.
• Chose 5 key words of your texts.
• Re-write one text without this words.
• Change your text with another group.
• Fill the blanks.
