Interoperability of health care management information systems allows different systems to communicate and share data. A significant challenge is creating a system where all organizations can share data in a way that complies with privacy laws and technical standards. The SAPHIRE project aims to improve patient care through a more integrated approach enabled by interoperability. Ensuring security and privacy is the most important requirement for an effective interoperable solution to address concerns from patients and providers. Applying standards like WSIHS faces the challenge of integrating legacy systems, but this can be addressed through transition strategies and updated technologies that facilitate communication across different platforms.
