Devlin– This image is successful in the way it presents the artist devlin as the artist is giving direct
address to the camera which is conventional of images of artists to do. On this image there is formal
symmetry for the design balance of it which applies to the rule of thirds as the artist is dominant in the
image and controls the centre third of the image balance. It is usual for the artist to be placed in the
centre of images as it is where the viewer’s eyes are automatically attracted to it and Devlin is a
successful mainstream artist so the use of direct address is well used.

Justin Bieber – This image uses informal symmetry due to the way that the artist is stood and how he’s partially
slanted but the use of this is successful to the image as it is used because of the artists history and that he uses
more flirtatious images to gain popularity as he attracts a lot of girl fans, in which associates with the use of the
star using direct address to the camera so this image is therefore successful in this way despite not using a formal
design balance for the symmetry. The image fits into the principles of the rule of thirds as the star is in the centre
of the middle third which is the prime position for images and he controls that area this therefore attracts the
viewer straight to the image of Justin Bieber.
One Direction – The use of this image can be seen as extremely successful as it imitates the iconic image of the
Beatles and the band use it as their own, this suggests that they want to become that huge and successful in
which they are becoming a hit boy band, the image uses formal symmetry and fits into the rule of thirds this is
successful as it draws the audience to it more and makes it more memorable in which with this even more easy
because of using the famous iconic image of the Beatles.

Calvin Harris – This image uses formal symmetry and has a successful design balance of it which fits into the rule of
thirds as the artist controls the middle third and dominates the centre of the image which is successful to the
layout and design principle of images of artists. The use of direct address is another conventional thing used in the
image as the star is looking straight at the camera to give the feeling that he is communicating with the audience
through the image.
Taylor Swift – The image here uses informal symmetry and fits into the rule of thirds in the concept that the
stars face is in the first third and the viewer’s eyes are automatically attracted to the artists face, also in the
context of the balance of the image the first half of the page generally has more colour and from the first look
on the image you can think that the genre of the stars music will be pop and more mainstream because of the
way she has a huge smile and is leaning more towards the camera and her appearance looks more glamorous
 and like a pop star.

Queen – The image uses formal symmetry and fits into the rule of thirds completely the design balance of the
image is used perfectly and appeals to the audience vastly. The band controls all thirds of the image and with
this image it has become famous and very iconic of the band queen. The colour and the artists faces are
contrasted but this can be linked to their genre of music being rock and is used very successful to create a
successful image of the band.
Ne-yo – The image of Ne-yo uses informal symmetry but it fits into the rule of thirds because the artist
dominates the centre third of the image which makes it a successful image for the design balance of it. Also the
artist is wearing the hat which is iconic to the artist as he is near enough always seen wearing a white of black
hat with whatever costume he has on. The artist is giving the camera direct address which is conventional of
images of artists and it makes it appeal to his target audience more because he is addressing them directly in
which from the first glance at the image you can see that his genre of music will be R&B because of the ethnic
association and the way he is dressed and comes across.

Flo Rida - This image is successful in the form that it represents the type of musician that he is, he is a
rapper and the gold chain can be associated with this. On this image is the use of formal symmetry as the
balance of it is complete in which it applies to the rule of thirds principle too as he dominates he middle
third so therefore the viewer will automatically be attracted to the image as he is placed in the centre and
as the star Flo Rida is a successful mainstream artist the use of direct address on the image helps to lure in
 a reader too.
