Pop music is a genre of popular music which originated in its
modern form in the 1950s, deriving from rock and roll. As it has
catchy and memorable beat thus it has many fan following.
Pop music started in 1930-40s by the first pop stars in history. Frank
Sinatra was seen as the first modern pop star.

Few artists are still around in the development of pop. They include
Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga etc. Mariah Carey started in
1988, Britney Spears in 1992 and Lady Gaga in 2005.
I would say the pop artist that has the biggest profile is Katy Perry,
because her music can apply to everyone(teens and adults)

Pop music audience is everyone. The fans mainly include girls due to
boy bands present in it like One Direction

There are different sub genres that can be influenced by pop music.
Bubblegum pop(mainly targeted to teens)
Christian pop(lyrics targeted mainly in the faith of God)
Dance pop(used in night clubs)
Teen pop(for preteens and teens)
Soundtrack(music that accompanies motion motion pictures)

I think popular music is liked and listened by most of the people as it
has catchy and memorable beat.
However, if pop music is mostly played on TV channels it would
attract more audience. People would feel young by listening to young
artists of pop genre.
