1. The Godfather
• Opening scene begins in an office as an innocent
man pleads the don to make these two boys
suffer for making his daughter suffer
• It’s a very dark scene with extremely low lighting
with an over the shoulder shot
• It’s the day of his daughters wedding and it’s
normal tradition on the day that everyone asks a
favour from the father
• Professional gangsters with suits to show that
they mean business

2. Up
Good use of non diegetic sound throughout the
whole of the scene to set the pace of the opening
scene, it follows the story of carl and Ellie’s
marriage as from the get go till the very end.
Everything changes as the scene progresses, it
starts with them being really young and wearing
modern clothing to them being wrinkly and grey
changing clothes to a more stereotypical type of an
old person.

3. The Conjuring
The Conjuring opening scene starts off with a voice over a
black screen so the audience’s main focus is on the words
and not what’s going on in the screen. When the voice
over ends there is a click and this is when the main prop
for the film (Annabelle) appears on the screen. When the
doll is shown, there is the use of a tracking shot to show
more of the doll. This gives a creepy effect to the viewer
due to the prop being very detailed and gloomy. When
the three characters are shown, there is a use of an over-
the-shoulder shot to show all three characters who are
explaining the story. This lets the viewer know about the
past of the doll and tells the audience how the past of the
doll affects the main story of the film.
