Il trattamento al plasma
Il plasma è un gas parzialmente ionizzato, con-
tenente ioni, atomi e particelle neutre che, ac-
celerate da un campo elettrico, sono in grado
di modificare chimicamente una superficie,
aumentandone la cosiddetta reattività superfi-
ciale. In pratica ciò significa che, per esempio
con il trattamento al plasma di un tessuto, è
possibile realizzare processi di grafting: un “in-
nesto”, analogo a quanto si fa in agricoltura,
attraverso il quale vengono trasferite al tessu-
to determinate proprietà tipiche del gas che si
utilizza. Oppure è possibile realizzare processi
di deposizione con cui la superficie del tessuto
viene rivestita in modo omogeneo, modifican-
done anche in modo radicale le caratteristiche
chimico-fisiche.

Discharge Plasma: le particelle del plasma rea-
giscono con la superficie del tessuto rendendola
chimicamente attiva e aumentandone la rugo-
sità. Il primo effetto viene raggiunto con la so-
stituzione di gruppi funzionali della superficie
del materiale con atomi o gruppi chimici diver-
si. L’eliminazione di particelle dalla superficie
del tessuto è ottenuta grazie al bombardamen-
to di particelle energetiche e grazie a radiazioni
che rompono i legami chimici della superficie.
Le particelle di tessuto che così si distaccano
dalla superficie vengono estratte tramite pom-
pe da vuoto.
I vantaggi del trattamento al plasma sono mol-
teplici:
