Conquered The Beasts Of Strange Illusions
“You stay in a filthy place,” my friend said with a smirk
while he followed me home. “I’m saving money,” I
replied as I opened the door for him. Right when we
entered, I saw the surprise on his face, which quickly
transformed into a cheerful little smile. My little home
was a contrast to the filthy street that turned him off.
No, it isn’t all fairy lights and flowers. It is but a cozy
room minimally decorated with wooden artifacts, a
bookshelf with hundreds of books and a feather bed
covered with white sheets that lay on the floor. In the
corner, there is a dimly lit table lamp and a notebook.
Right above it, is a string with a dozen of notes attached
– notes to myself.
He was surprised that I had cooked dinner for him and
was thankful about the wine. I said it was just a gesture
to express gratitude, and that I was indebted to him for
being a major help in getting my first collection of poetry
published. He was eager to know about my meeting and

bakery at Connaught Place, after my friend introduced us
at a party. Not only was he well read, he and I had one
thing in common. Both of us absolutely loved Pablo
Neruda and his style. I quickly ordered croissants and
two cups of coffee while he went through my poetry at
the bakery shop in Connaught Place. He told me that he
loved them and asked me if I had a title in mind for the
book.

With the kind of expression on his face, I felt like I had
been lame to pick such a name. However, to my utter
pleasure, he said that he was amazed with the name and
readily agreed to take it forward.
In another meeting at Brioche Dorée, which the publisher
considered the best cake shop in Connaught Place, we
discussed the terms and conditions and everything was
finalized. My book was finally published and I felt like I
had conquered the beasts of strange illusions.
My friend did not expect that everything would have
been as simple as that. Not only did he accept that
Brioche Bakery was the best and cheap café in CP, he
believed why I called that place the luckiest of all my
lucky charms.
