3. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Cooperative institutions have proven to be a major factor leading to growth especially in social and economic benefits in developing countries. In these nations the rise of
cooperative movements has become an essential part of their financial resources. With the ongoing trends in the global market today cooperative organizations have become
important to their economy as they promote community development and economic development to the states involved.
Under the colonial regime the proposition of the cooperative movement was seen being used in country of Asia and parts of Africa. The masses were cynical about them, since
they came from the colonialist. Different roles were played in the creation of the initial cooperative in the colonial era by the formation of cooperative unions in the municipal
states
This tends to show the significance of the education and training in the cooperative institutions, over the years there has seen a need and a rise in the need of training and
education as it is seen to have helped increased performances and lively hood of the members involved
Most of the cooperatives today demand one should have attained a specific level of education to be able to secure positions such as managers or supervisors, in other aspects
when one passes the education space training is offered which in then gives members the necessary skills required for the job
4. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
•In cooperatives the problem that this study addresses is how education and training has impacted the daily operations of the cooperative society. Most of the impacts
have been positive, in some scenarios we have seen cooperatives perform to their level best leading to major output from the institutions. Education and training have
since been included to be one of the qualifications needed for one to work in a cooperative institution and this has proven to be a challenge as some of the members
cannot afford to acquire the necessary education and training to be able to join some of the cooperatives for their liking.
•Locally, a number of researches have been conducted to establish how impacts of education and training in cooperatives have impacted different individuals, the need
for the training and education become a big influence in the cooperative world despite some of these cooperatives lack the right infrastructure and tools to carry out their
activities
•On conclusion there is still an unsolved question of how education and training has impacted the cooperative market despite most members and individuals not meeting
the target requirements of either being a staff or a manager depending on their level of education
5. OBJECTIVES
1.3 General objective
•To determine the influence of cooperative education and training on economic growth of cooperative societies in Siaya county
1.4 Specific objectives
•To examine the various levels of education and training one can achieve which can contribute to the economic growth of the cooperative
society in Siaya
•To analyse the employment opportunities one can get in Siaya county which influence the economic growth of cooperatives in Siaya
•To examine the living standards of members of the cooperative society and evaluate how they impact the economic growth of cooperatives in
Siaya

• Theoretical Review
1. Social Interdependence Theory
The social interdependence theory is relevant when each individual’s goals are accomplished under the influence of the
actions of others (Johnson & Johnson, 2005). This perspective holds that individuals help each other learn because they
care about the group and its members, and come to derive self-identity benefits from group membership (Slavin, 2011).
2. Cognitive Theory
• The Cognitive theory explores how the process of thinking and learning occurs by considering the inside of the human
mind. Perspectives. Researchers like (Slavin,1996) argued that the mental processing of the information rather than
motivating is far much better and will help improve one’s academic achievement

METHODOLOGY
Research design
The study will adopt descriptive research design during which quantity are going to be collected and
analyzed so as to explain the precise phenomenon in its current trends, current events and linkages between
various factors at the present time.
Target Population and Study Population
This study will target 36 staff members at Anywiko-Ujwanga who are the members of the cooperative
society, management and other employees.
Sampling Design and Sample Size
During this case purposive sampling is acceptable in identifying target population due to its reliability in
provision of data required for the study. This study will use purposive sampling where the researcher uses
the sample supported who they think are appropriate for the study and uses it where there's limited number
of individuals that have expertise within the area of research.

Data collection instruments - The study will use both primary and secondary data. The
study will adopt the questionnaire as a tool of collecting primary data.
For secondary data, the researcher will have personal interviews with the members and
workers of the cooperative society of the Sacco and draw conclusions from them.
Data Analysis- Questionnaires are going to be subjected first to coding to scale back the
mass of knowledge obtained to a form suitable for analysis. Data presentation is going to be
presented within the sort of categories, percentages, Averages and Graphs.
