beliefs as they relate to their lives as residents of
the United States and members of a global
society.
◦ Students have concrete opportunities to identify
and apply their knowledge of ethics, both in
solving short-term problems and in creating
long-term forecasts.
5. Advanced English language learners are
usually concerned about writing, listening,
speaking, and grammatical accuracy in
complex or academic contexts.
With advanced learners, representatives of
the local government, such as the county
council or the board of education, can be
invited to speak to the class about how
decisions are made locally, and debates can
be conducted on issues facing the county and
the state
