1. INTRODUCTION
The Indian Railways (IR) carries about 5.5 lakhs passengers in reserved accommodation every day. The
Computerised Passenger Reservation System(PRS) facilities the booking and cancellation of tickets from any
of the 4000 terminal(i.e. PRS booking window all over the countries). These tickets can be booked or cancelled
for journeys commencing in any part of India and ending in any other part, with travel time as long as 72hours
and distance upto several thousand kilometres. The project of PRS was launched on 15th November 1985,
over Northern Railway with the installation of Integrated Multiple Train Passenger Reservation
System(IMPRESS), an online transaction processing system developed by Indian Railways in association with
Computer Maintenance Corporation Ltd., at New Delhi. The objective was to provide reserved accomodations
on any train from any counter, preparation of train charts and accounting of the money collected. The
application was implemented in 1987 Mumbai, Chennai ,Kolkata, subsequently.

5. MODULES
User Registration: Customer should register into the online railway reservations system so that he/she
can create account on the site.
User Login: Customer can login into the system to check the trains available, the seat and the time
they prefer in our railway reservation system and book accordingly
Payment: After they select the train and appropriate seat, customers can make payment through
UPI(Unified Payment Interface-is an initiative by Government of India)-Anyone who has registered
for UPI can make online payments using their valid UPI-ID, through credit card online, through debit
card, net banking, Paytm, Phonepe, google pay and user can also pay through cash on delivery.
Login confirmation: After user has successfully done login into the system, “You have successfully
login” message appears.
Customer: Customer can register into the system, customer can login/logout into the system, customer
can book ticket and reserved their seat in advance into the system, customer can make payment, etc.

The main aim of developing reservation system is to provide all
information that is required by the users. Users friendliness is must that is
the user must get the details without complicated searching procedures.
Other important requirements of software are data security, extensibility
and maintainability. All these features are included in the web application.
