This presentation teaches how to get hired by anyone by answering three simple questions. By taking the time to answer these questions You can make a Powerful impact with people you meet who have opportunities which fit what you are looking for.
5. Personality Likes Traits
People want to connect with people we trust, not just a list of
ideas someone thinks is important
To truly answer the question of “Why should I hire you?” what
needs to occur is to look at yourself
What makes you unique is not the arbitrary list of skills,
accomplishments or information you have learned, but how
you present that information to others
What will ultimately make me want to hire you?
Understanding who you are and making sure that person,
characteristics and information, is what I need to solve my
issues
This is done when I get to know and see who you are; not by
looking at a list of arbitrary ideas about you
6. I can’t just walk up to a woman, present my “credentials” and
then ask, “Would you like to get married?”
The concept is ludicrous, however …
We have no problem going to a potential employer, posting a
list of credentials we hope are important and asking to work
for the company
There is something to be said about building the relationship,
having trust and understanding the needs of each other
The more trust can occur the stronger the employment will
be, but in order for that to happen you need to be YOU
Give me the best of you and I’ll use you where I need you … I’ll
even help you fill in the gaps where you might be lacking
7. • The more we know about each other the more powerful our connection becomes
• The more I know about you the easier it is to see how you fit into the organization
• The more shared experiences we have the stronger our relationship will be
Tell Me AboutYourself
• Leave me with a good feeling that allows me to have a powerful memory of you
• Leave me with actions that reinforce the ideas and statements you say about yourself
• Leave me with a shared experience that strengthens the relationship we will have
Show Me WhoYou Are
8. You
Skills
Characteristics
Traits
Likes
ThoughtsIdeas
Personality
Talents
Accomplishments
You are comprised of many, many, many different aspects.
Any one of those aspects can connect with a person and
make you stand out from the crowd.
Begin every relationship by giving of yourself.
It will come out eventually so you might as well start with it
and let people decide how they will use you.
The problem is if you don’t take time to recognize these
personal elements you will stutter when asked, “Why Should I
HireYou?”
It’s important now to take time to discover your greatness
because we rarely take the time to do so when we are
employed.
9.
10. Key
Elements
to
Remember
Telling someone how great you are
means nothing if they don’t value
the same things as you do
Telling someone all the wonderful
things you can do means nothing if
they are not interested in those
things
Telling someone to listen to you
when you are not speaking the same
language means nothing and is futile
in the end
11. Need Problem Concern
Every person or company has a problem that needs to be
resolved
Every position in a company is there because of the need to
solve a problem
More often than not those problems are not posted anywhere
for you to discover
The only way to understand and discover what a person or
company needs is to ask questions about the current problem
they want to resolve
Once you understand the problem, need or concern you can
begin to understand how you can resolve those issues
Once you understand how to resolve the issues you begin to
see why a company should hire you
12. It is more important to ask smart questions and listen to the
responses than it is to say things that are not meaningful.
Meaningful conversation is a two-sided activity where a
powerful give-and-take takes place.
When you act as a peer and colleague to people they will
treat you with the same professionalism.
As peers we talk shop, share war stories, and contribute
advice which all builds a strong foundation of a relationship
Our contributions are meaningful pieces of ourselves that will
stick in the memory of our conversationalist.
Then, after we have meaningful conversations, we become
the solution that gets recalled when a problem arises.
13. • Understanding the needs of the company will show you what skills are really required
• Understanding the needs of the company will give you insight into how to create a powerful
solution
• Understanding the needs of the company gives you the ability to craft powerful presentations
What are the companies needs?
• Knowing the issues of the company will show you what direction the company is headed
• Knowing the issues of the company will give you insight into what unforeseen problems they
may encounter
• Knowing the issues of the company will allow you to propose solutions to resolve those issues
What are the issues that need to be resolved?
14. Situation
Problem
Concern Solution
Hope
Positive
Result Memory
Every one has a problem we are trying to overcome.
We all have situations arise that create problems that need a
solution; These problems stay in our memory and cause worry
Those people who help us overcome these problems and lead
us to positive solutions will leave strong memories about
themselves;They replace worry with hope
When we find ourselves or others in the same situation again
those people with strong memories will be recalled
They become our first round of individuals we consult to
resolve the issue
We want to surround ourselves with these people so we can
take on more challenges with little frustration or concern
15.
16. Key
Elements
to
Remember
Skills, Credentials and Accolades are
important, especially in giving you
confidence
Knowing what the employer needs
and problems they have are
important
Offering solutions to their problems
that utilize your skills, credentials
and accolades is important
17. Knowing
Yourself
Understanding
their Problem
Saying the
RightThing
To say impactful items you need to understand the meaningful things
about yourself and then create statements that highlight those items
For some people these are called power statements, “home-run”
statements or value statements
The key to any value statement is to highlight an accomplishment and
spotlight the result … preferably with a number quantifying the result
Once you have a number of these value statements created, practiced
and verbally owned you bring them into conversations naturally once
you understand a person’s situation
Remember: We are always looking for ways to solve our problems.
When I am struggling, you understand my struggle, you offer a solution
that makes sense to me, and then back up that solution with your
knowledge and experience I will look at you as the expert and answer
to my problem; I will remember you for a significant amount of time
afterwards
18. Crafting a meaningful Value Statement lies in knowing the story you want to
portray.
Each story should highlight a specific accomplishment or success in your past.
1) Start by writing down the success
2) Break apart the success into specific parts
a) What skill(s) are you highlighting?
b) Where did this success take place?
c) What was the problem the company had?
d) What was your solution to the problem?
e) What was the end result of your solution?
3) Form your statement using these components
For Example:
“At ESC Automotive, there was an issue with not enough certified Audi mechanics. I
volunteered to go through the Audi certification process, studied and passed the
certification in 8 months, 4 months faster than the national average. We were able
to expand the business by 20% in 4 months and I was able to mentor 2 new
mechanics through their certifications.”
When you say statements like that it’s almost impossible not to “WOW” people who
are facing those issues
19. • Learn what makes you great by looking at the successes and accomplishments in your life
• Learn how to turn those successes and accomplishments into powerful Value Statements by
breaking them apart into core pieces: Problem, Solution and Result
• Learn each new Value Statement through repetition so you can recall them when you need aWOW!
Understand how to phrase your value into meaningful statements
• Learn what other people need by listening and asking meaningful questions
• Learn to recognize appropriate opportunities in conversations so you can propose solutions
• Learn to let the solution speak to your knowledge, expertise and skillset instead of you listing your
resume
Understand the needs of others so you can showcase your value appropriately
20. Good Great
We find ourselves in a redefining of what VALUE means to ourselves
The lesson of the past recession has taught us that people still NEED
stuff, but weVALUE money differently
We are not willing to take a gamble on unproven value; so it appears
that opportunities are not as prevalent
We want individuals who understand our needs, trials and situations
and provide meaningful solutions
A listing of skills, accolades and credentials don’t showcase value, but
they give you confidence to speak as an expert in the industry
The real value of an individual comes not from their knowledge, but
how they present that knowledge
It is the person who presents valuable solutions that receives great
opportunities

24. Stop being forgettable by listing
nothing that is meaningful about you
Start being memorable by providing
solutions
People crave value and eschew noise
You choose everyday the type of
person you will be: a person we crave
or a person we eschew

answers to these questions and ..
