2. What is Report Text?
Report text is a text which presents
information about something, as it is. It is as
a result of systematic observation and
analysis.
3. When writing reports you will need to:
Use technical terms e.g. comb, threshing,
drum.
Write in simple present tense e.g. harvest,
cuts.
4. Generic Structure of Report Text:
1. General classification: introducing the thing that
will be talked about.
2. Description: elaborating and reporting on the
subject in detail.
5. Headers harvest crops such as wheat, barley and oats.
These machines are also known as combine harvesters. Headers
General statement combine the three operations needed to harvest a crop --
reaping, threshing and winnowing.
The comb on the front of the header cuts the heads off the
stalks (reaping). The auger pulls the heads into the
machine. The stalks left standing in the paddock are called
stubble.
Threshing involves separating the grains from the head.
The drum rotates, beating the heads. Straw and chaff (bits

of stalk) are fed out the back of the header. Straw is
spread over the ground. Stock can graze on this and the
standing stubble left after harvest.
There are a number of screens in the header. Grain passes
over these and fans blow the husks away. This is called
winnowing. The clean grain is stored in the box. When this
is full the grain is augured out into a chaser bin or truck.
6. A THEATER
A theatre is a place where people entertain the audience. The
people who perform, called actors and actresses, act in plays on a
stage. A stage can be raised platform, or it can be a part of the floor in
a room, either in the centre of the room or against a wall. The
audience, is very important part of a theatre because it is for the
audience that the actors and actresses act, and the playwright writes.
Without an audience, they are only rehearsing or practicing.
A theatre can be anywhere- in home, school auditorium, park
and a hall. Theatre means action. In this text, theatre is used in
connection with performances on stage by live actors and actresses.
It is living theatre. Theatre in the East differs greatly from that of the
west. The Asian theatre, o the other hand, tends to be realistic.
