1. Some Fun Stuff from Daniel de Caussin
I wanted to display some pictures of some of the things I do besides Manage the Shop.
You can see in the background a welding fixture I designed and made for our welder.
Here is one example of a
fixture that uses Lean
methods. The location of the
fixture is in the program. The
operator does not need to
indicate the fixture or sweep
in a hole for the location.
This is an example of
external set-up. I think this is
very cool.

Because of itʼs weight, the fixture on the left required two people to lift it, and four hours
to set up.
The fixtures on the right are for the same parts operations two and three. My operators
can set these up and cut the first parts within fifteen minutes.
Now that is lean!
Here is a vacuum form mold for a seat back.

Here you see the next job
ready to go, tools, set up
sheet, and the fixture. This
is a way to improve
machine utilization.
Most machine controls have the ability
to write data to offset tables. Here you
see the data for the G54 fixture offsets
in the program. This is possible by
using a sub-plate with alphanumeric
marking on the plate. The fixture is
always secured in the same location.

One way to save time is to put all
the tools you need for a set-up on
a cart and roll it up to the
machine.
Routers arenʼt just for flat parts.
All these pictures were taken with my iPhone.
