El Paso History
El Paso was once inhabited only by Indians, but as timed passed and many cultures began to
converge and cumulate. El Paso's diversity, population wise, is now 81.2 percent Hispanics, 13.7
percent White, 3.0 percent Black, 1.2 percent Asian, .3 percent American Indian, and 0.7 percent
other. El Paso has a great wide diversity in its population, and it borders Ciudad Juárez, Mexico
which makes El Paso a unique place. El Paso is a historical city, were cultures have been clashing
for many years, so immigration is not something new. According to www.theirminesourstories.org,
in 1598 the Juan de Oñate expedition celebrated the first Thanksgiving on United States' soil. Don
Juan de Oñate was one of the earliest Spanish conquistadors to enter what is now North America.
He led his men through the mountains and named this pass "El Paso del Norte." The Pueblo Revolt
in New Mexico in 1680 forced Spanish settlers back south of the Rio Grande. Many settled along
the river at the Pass of the North, primarily on the south side of the river. For the next few centuries
the Spanish settlements along the border flourished. The historic missions in Ysleta, Socorro and
San Elizario were founded; in which these simple, but amazig monuments to an age–old religious
tradition still stand today. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Benito Juarez
Juárez was born in the village of San Pablo Guelatao, Oaxaca on March 21, 1807, located in the
mountain range now known as the "Sierra Juárez". His parents, Marcelino Juárez and Brígida
García, were peasants who both died when he was three years old. Shortly after, his grandparents
died as well, in which his uncle then raised him.[2][3] He described his parents as "indios de la raza
primitiva del país," that is, "Indians of the original race of the country."[3] He worked in the corn
fields and as a shepherd until the age of 12, when he walked to the city of Oaxaca to attend school.

Juárez declared a moratorium on foreign debt payments. Spain, Great Britain, and France reacted
with a joint seizure of the Veracruz customs house in December 1861. Spain and Britain soon

The Mexicans won an initial victory over the French at Puebla in 1862, celebrated annually as

government to retreat to the north, first to San Luis Potosí, then to the arid northern city of El Paso

City, where he set up his cabinet and government–in–exile. There he would remain for the next two

Customers who fail to return the rental within 25 days will be charged a late fee of $25.00 for

Did you know that Mexico has a history with many brutal crimes? Crimes such as kidnapping,
money laundering, murders, prostitution, drug dealing, extortion, human trafficking, gun trafficking,
drug trafficking, car thief, and cartels wars. Have you ever been a victim of any of this crimes listed
above in Mexico? Sadly most people who lived in Mexico tend to be victims of a crime. In Mexico
1 out of every 8,300 people are violently murdered. Most murder rates are in the borders near the
United States. However the murder rate has gone down in most places. In the other hand drug
trafficking and kidnapping has risen in the past five years, which has been a major critical problem
coming from many cartel and wars between them Drug trafficking .The Mexican drug trafficking
rings play a major role in the flow of heroin, cocaine, and marijuana transiting between United Sates
and Latin America. Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera known as "El Chapo" is well known in
Mexico. A majority of people have heard about him or know about him in other countries as well
.The reason why he is well known is because he became Mexico's top drug leader in 2003 and the
first drug lord to use aircraft to smuggle to the United States. He was in charge of the world 's
largest and most powerful drug trafficking organization referred to as Sinaloa Cartel. "The Sinaloa

How Did Pancho Villa Change During The Mexican Revolution
Pancho Villa was a top military general of the Mexican Revolution. Pancho Villa was born Doroteo
Arange on June 5, 1878, in San Juan del Rio Durango. Villa spent much of his youth helping around
his parents' farm. After his father's death when Villa was only 15 years old, he became head of the

With his new role as protector of his new household, he shot a man who was harassing one of his
sisters in 1894. He fled, spending 6 years on the run in the mountains. While there, he joined a
group of fugitives and became a bandit.
Although the specifics of what occurred in Villa's life during this time are unknown, it's confirmed

Mercantilism And Cocaine
From Tradition to Addiction; A Brief History of the Coca Leaf & Cocaine
Today, the drug cocaine is widely known for its recreational uses, as well as its addictive properties.
Roughly 500 hundred years ago the coca leaf was introduced to Europe. Cocaine, the pure substance
that comes from a particular species of the coca leaf, has evolved from traditional usage in the
indigenous community of the Andes to the highly illegal consumption in America. Plowman (1989)
a taxonomist from the botany department in the museum of natural history of Chicago explains that
dried coca leaf has been used as a mild stimulant for centuries. The variety of species of
Erythroxylum extends to about 200 varieties. Most species grow on the tropical area of the Eastern

Cocaine took part of a small part of the initial triangular trade; it was one of the many resources that
Europe extracted from South America under the economic theory of Mercantilism. Mercantilism is
the economic theory that promoted trades of goods from colonized nations to more powerful ones in
order to increase the wealth of the main land. Current day Venezuela, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and
Colombia were the prime producers of the plant due to their direct access to the zones that grow it.
Mass consumption and production of the coca leaf did not begin until the plant was purified into
cocaine. The Chemical isolation and purification of cocaine from the coca leaf (which varies from
.5% to 1% of the plant.) started in 1860 by the German scientist Albert Niemann under the wing of
Friedrich Wohler . The triangular trade was the established trade routes in the eighteenth and
nineteenth centuries where South America and west Africa exported raw goods and slaves to Europe
where they became commodities to be sold back to the Americas and Africa.. These route allowed
the coca leaf to reach the German research. Exotic commodities were gaining popular demand in the
late 19 hundreds. When cocaine was introduced in Europe it became popular in medical circles. The
renowned Austrian psychologist Sigmund Freud was a prominent advocate of its usage for medical
purposes. United States became a prime consumer of the drug in the late 19Th to early 20Th
century. Products like Coca–Cola and healing elixirs had the purified cocaine as a main ingredient.
In some cases it was advertised as a cure for addiction to opiates. However, it became illegal due to
the serious physical harms and addiction concerns. Yet, with such great demand, an alternative

The Basics Of Mediation Between An Addict And A Victim Of...
When I was nine years old, I was forced to learn the basics of mediation between an addict and a
victim of abuse. I think about the paths I could have taken, had I not met the right people. The
culture clichés I could have so easily followed had I chosen to conform rather than create an
opportunity for myself. Through the use of persuasive communication, I was able to guide my father
away from violence. I remember having trouble my early years of school as I soon became my
father's drinking partner. He needed someone to talk to at late hours of the night and I was always
available. I would like to say that I am motivated by the positivity in my life, but that would be a lie.
In return I do believe it that the negativity I experienced early on and difficulties I faced in
childhood that helped shape my focus as I experimented with different careers and fields of study. I
have continuously battled the culture of patriarchy entrenched through my background and authority
figures. I had to battle my autocratic ruler mentally, verbally and – in unfortunate instances –
physically. Although my animosity for my mother's inability to walk away from my father's
dominance grew as an adult, I was enlightened by her willingness to serve others. I grew up in a
border city, known for its inability to progress and recalled for its femicides. These femicides were

According to the Merriam–Webster Dictionary, professionalism is defined as the conduct, aims, or
qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person. A few pages to the left,
efficient is defined as productive of desired effects, especially productive without waste, an efficient

Analysis Of The Article ' Living On The Border ' Essay
In its most basic definition, the U.S.–Mexico Border is a 2000–mile line that divides the United
States and Mexico. However, those who spend their lives experiencing the concept of "the border,"
acknowledge that the U.S.–Mexico Border is more than just a line. It's an epicenter of; historical,
political, social, economic, and cultural affairs that influence people on both countries. In this essay,
I will be discussing the endogeneity effect between the border and its people and how I influence
this phenomenon. Historically speaking, the endogeneity effect between the border and its people
began in 1848 with the Treaty of Guadalupe–Hidalgo and it wasn't until the Gadsden Purchase of
1854 that gave the border its current form. In the article entitled Living on the Border: A Wound
That Will Not Heal, the author, Norma E. Cantu states that "the pain and joy of the borderlands –
come from a wound that will not heal and yet is forever healing." Said quote summarizes Cantu's
observations that were influenced by the creation of the U.S.– Mexico border. One of most talked
about issues to those who live in on the U.S.–Mexico Border is the economy. The economic
relationship between the United States and Mexico began in the colonial era, but it was not
formalized and strengthen until the North American Free Trade Agreement was enacted and ratified
by both countries, with the addition of Canada, in 1993. Mexican government "made it clear that the

The National Border Industrialization Program
In the mid 1960's the National Border Industrialization program began, helping the maquiladoras
industry and the development of infrastructure of its northern border. Creating job opportunities and
means of products into the country. According to Mexico Maquiladoras and NAFTA, Patrick Kelly
describes that the maquiladora program "allowed foreign manufacturers to temporarily import duty
free machinery, tools, equipment, replacement parts and raw of plentiful and comparatively cheap
labor and low transportation costs, materials necessary to assemble and manufacture for export
outside the country, which had become an advantage for U.S manufacturers. When the maquiladora
industry first began they did not want foreign equipment or raw material to be sold in Mexico
without being subject to duty. The Mexican government had its own regulations, within those
regulations the maquilas were not allowed to sell completed products in Mexican markets with the
risk of losing their registration and continuance of importing goods free of duty. This regulation
began to lose its standards in the 1970s. According to Hanson, once the rules weren't practiced like
before its import changed and allowed the use of maquiladoras as part of its Border Industrialization
Program. Hanson claims that "the program permitted firms to import free of duty the inputs,
machinery, and parts they would need for export assembly operations". Maquiladoras or factories as
they are known today, were required to

The North American Free Trade Agreement
The North American Free Trade Agreement, which was ratified under President Bill Clinton and
went into effect in 1994 in order to eliminate tariffs over and to turn the United States, Mexico and
Canada into the world's second largest trading bloc after the European Union. Many people from
Mexico believed that the trade agreement would undercut Mexican farmers with cheap U.S. food
imports and worsen the inequality between the two countries. A struggling Mexican economy
received an initial boost from foreign investment related to NAFTA. But the economic crisis was
caused in part by the political instability that Mexico has been known for, a drop in foreign
investors, and a government spending spree toward the end of Salinas' presidency, among other
factors that took over the country led to the peso collapsing in late 1994. Despite privatization and
NAFTA, wealth still remained mostly concentrated within the elite classes, and the wage gap
between Mexico and the United States remained wide. Although NAFTA has stimulated a rise in
real income for Mexicans, the country as a whole continues to lack the infrastructure in agribusiness
and other industries, and the investment in education and innovation to become more competitive
with its northern neighbor. The Illegal Immigration Act of 1996 this act states that immigrants
unlawfully present in the United States for 180 days but less than 365 days must remain outside the
United States for three years unless they obtain a pardon.

Positive and Negative Effects of the Maquiladora Industry
Being a neighbor to the maquiladoras industry for a very large portion of my life, never stopped to
wonder what was the purpose of the maquiladoras? How do maquiladoras relate to cheap labor and
low economic opportunities? Can the pros and cons of the maquiladora industry affect the global
economies? Could our health be affected by the maquilas? Also, regarding the placement of these
industries– does it affect the infrastructure of our border cities?
The maquiladora industry has had a major impact on the lives of its employees. A documentary
from 2006 Maquilapolis, by Vicky Funario and Sergio de la Torre, show different women talking
about the type of products they assemble, from filters, toys, batteries, and electrical parts to
automobile parts. In 1960, when maquiladoras emerged in border cities, it changed people's

Madero's most important demands had been met, Díaz was out of office, and regular elections were
to be held to determine his successor. León de la Barra, however, was not a president to Zapata's
liking. While of great personal integrity, his political skills were lacking. The new president could
not assuage the peasants, especially since his allegiance was clearly with the rich planters who were
trying to regain control of Mexico, aided by the conditions of the Treaty of Ciudad Juárez. Even
though Zapata had been ordered to cease all hostilities, he and 5,000 men entered and captured
Cuernavaca, the capital of his native state of Morelos. In 1911, Madero was elected president of
Mexico, and Zapata met with him to discuss the demands of the peasantry. The meeting was
fruitless and the former allies parted in anger. The only joy those days held for the thirty–one–year–
old Zapata was his marriage to his bride Josefa, only six days after the ill–fated meeting with the
president. Officially, the Zapatistas were disbanded and Zapata himself was in retirement. The
police forces, in disarray after fighting the revolutionary forces, were no match for the new wave of

History Of Mexico : A Long And Rich One
The History of Mexico is a long and rich one, but it is also a really fascinating one. Before the
spanish arrived in Mexico, it was already largely inhabited by native Mexicans. These native
Mexicans were known as the Chichimecs and they were mostly hunter and gatherer societies. In the
rest of Mexico however existed much more advanced populations. Populations like Mayans,
Totonacs, Huastecs, Otomis, Mixtecs, Zapotecs, Tlaxcalans, Tarascans, and the Aztecs. These
civilizations developed elaborate urban systems of religious, political, and commercial purposes.
Cities like Tenochtitlan and Chichen Itza are examples of such cities. When the Spanish arrived into
central Mexico, the Aztecs had controlled most of the mesa central through a tribute system. The
reason the Aztecs were in the central mesa region was because of their prophecy to found a city on
the basis of an eagle with a snake on its beak that was resting on a cactus, this later became Mexicos
national symbol. Tenochtitlan was founded in the 1300s and became the capital of the Aztec empire,
which they then began warring with local Tribes. Mexicos name actually derives from the Aztec god
of war Mexitli. From the time the Spanish landed in Mexico until the end of Hernando Cortez's
conquest 1521, Mexico was a colony of Spain. Cortez first entered the valley of Mexico on the mesa
central in 1519 after marching from Veracruz, the town that he had founded on the gulf coastal
plain. With only 200 men, the conquest of the

But how do you combat this crisis? One solution, installing low–flow toilets could cut usage by 70
percent. (CIP) New York city in the mid 90's was facing a similar water shortage. Facing a choice of
a billion dollar pumping station or low–flow toilets, NY opted for the low–flows. 1.33 million low–
flow toilets later, water consumption per day drop 70 percent over an eight–year span (91–99), with
70–90 million gallons saved a day!
A solution currently being employed is to fix leaks in the cities out dated water pipes. Anywhere
from 27–40 percent of the cities water is lost through leaks, an estimated 1100 gallons could be
saved a second if these leak were. Other ideas currently in use or suggested include: Collecting
rainfall, Desalination, and drip irrigation. My favorite, drip irrigation would not only save 30–70
percent compared with flood irrigation, but has been shown to increase crop yield 20–90 percent,
talk about killing two birds with one stone.
But really when it comes down to it the easiest and most logical way to cut the cities water demand
of 7,750 gallons per second would be to teach people water conservation methods, recycle water
more effectively, and/or just stop polluting the current sources. Still it's easier said then done
without the proper funding this will never happen. While were on the money subject let me throw
just one more fun statistic at you, some 40 percent of water users either never receive water bills or
simply refuse to pay them.

My Mexican Culture
Many people used to think that their heritage means nothing to them, but for me it means a lot.
Growing up my family would always talk in Spanish or they would talk about how they love being
Mexican, but I never fully understood why being Mexican was so important to my family. One day I
decided to sit down with my parents, and ask them why is our Mexican heritage so important? They
would tell me all sorts of stories such as: how they were apart of a dance group called Ballet
Folklorico De Topeka, my mom would always tell me how she likes listening/singing to music. Me
personally Mexican music is so much better than songs in English. Why I say that is because
Mexican music is so much more poetic. As a little girl, I learned a lot about my Mexican heritage. I
even joined my parents in their dance group and still involved in it today. Over the years it's been so
fun, and it helped me learn a lot about different Mexican counties. Who would've thought that I
would learn so much just by dancing. I know it sounds crazy, but it's the truth. Also being a little girl
I learned about "Day Of The Dead" which in Spanish is called "dia de los muertos" which is a two
day celebration. The day's in which this takes place is September 1 and 2nd. September 1st we
honor the children and September 2nd we honor the adults. When I was little I never fully
understood why we celebrated people deaths. I always thought when someone dies we show our
respects and grief about it, but throwing a whole

Zapata, a rather cautious, soft–spoken man, had become a revolutionary.
During the first weeks of 1911, Zapata continued to build his organization in Morelos, training and
equipping his men and consolidating his authority as their leader. Soon, Zapata's band of
revolutionaries, poised to change their tactics and take the offensive, were known as Zapatistas. On
February 14, Francisco Madero, who had escaped the authorities to New Orleans, returned to
Mexico, knowing that it was time to restart his revolution with an all–out offensive. Less than a
month later, on March 11, 1911, "a hot, sticky Saturday night," the bloody phase of the
Mexican Revolution began at Villa de Ayala. There was no resistance from the villagers, who were
mostly sympathetic to the revolution, being sharecroppers or hacienda workers themselves, and the
local police were disarmed quickly. Not all battles that followed were this quick, however. The
revolution took its bloody course with the legendary Pancho Villa fighting in the northern part of
Mexico, while Zapata remained mainly south of Mexico City. On May 19, after a week of extremely
fierce fighting with government troops, the Zapatistas took the town of Cuautla. Only forty–eight

The Border Cities Of El Paso And Ciudad Juarez
Along the Texas/Mexico border there are many border cities, and among the border cities there is a
trend that points to an advantage of prosperity on the US side compared to the Mexican side of the
border. The border cities of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez show an example of the US advantage over
the Mexican side; El Paso is a Texas city on the Texas/Mexico border, and in 2014 it was the city
with the lowest crime rate in the US ; Ciudad Juarez, on the other hand was known as one of the
deadliest cities in Mexico . Along with the differences in crime rates, El Paso and Ciudad Juarez
have many differences that make them clear examples of the advantage that Texas border cities hold
over Mexican border cities.
Crime
In 2010, Ciudad Juarez was one of the most violent cities in all of Mexico with 3,057 murders .
Ciudad Juarez became an example of the extent of the drug war that was occurring in Mexico in the
2000s. Death had become a common occurrence in Ciudad Juarez. At the height of the drug war in
Mexico, between the years of 2007 and 2012, around 11,078 people were murdered in Ciudad
Juarez . In contrast to Ciudad Juarez, El Paso had the lowest crime rate in the US in 2014 .
According to the Neighborhood Scout website's interactive map, crime rates in the city of El Paso
are for the most part low, but near the border there is a high crime rate. The higher crime rate found
along the border is probably due to the ongoing drug trade and illegal immigration that occurs along

Murder Capital Of The World
In a period of four years one metropolitan city experienced a 1,000 percent increase in homicides.
Steven Dudley and Elyssa Pachico report that there was an astounding 3,000 murders reported in
2010 compared to only 300 murders in 2006. The statistics dubbed Ciudad Juarez as the murder
capital of the world during these years. The ongoing war between the once dominant Juarez Cartel
and the current reigning rival Sinaloa Cartel spurred the homicide rate in this crucial drug trafficking
route. Recent speculations are that the Sinaloa Cartel led by Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera has
surpassed the waning Juarez Cartel and taken control of Cd. Juarez's territory (Shoichet). Just like
both groups are to blame for the colossal amount of murders so can the shift in power and
dominance by one organized crime group in the area could be accredited the dramatic decrease in
violence. Crime in this border city which neighbors El Paso, TX has had a sharp decrease in
killings. Julio Castañeda, a Chihuahua state spokesman, reports, "So far this year (2015) there have
been 89 killings" (Valencia). Fighting organized crime will always be an international challenge, but
the war against organized crime in Mexico and along the border with the United States needs to be
approached differently than it has been in the past. The high demand for illicit drugs in the United
States needs to be minimized, the supply of weapons flowing south to arm federal law enforcement
agencies in Mexico needs to stop,

Analysis Of The Film ' Amalia Hernandez ' And ' Deer Dance...
Amalia Hernandez was born in 1917, and was the famous creator of Ballet Folklorico. Classical
Ballet was Hernandez's first passion, in which she started taking lessons as a young girl. Later in her
life, she decided to specialize in Native American dance. Ballet Folklorico was first founded in
1952. The company was a huge success, and soon became the largest and most popular dance
company in the entire world. More than 60 regions of Mexico were incorporated into her
performances. Amalia Hernandez's work and style incorporated many different cultures and themes.
Many dances were fiesta themed and incorporated beautiful different colors and costumes. Fiesta
theme performances were fun and different to watch. The vibrant colors and creativity made them
unique and festive. A great deal of Mexican history was also incorporated in Hernandez's work as
well. One on Hernandez's most famous creations was named, ' 'Deer Dance of the Yaqui Indians".
This dance was associated from a Mexican tribe. It resembled a hunter hunting a deer. In the act, a
male artist wore antlers, resembling the deer the hunter was after. The text stated, "The Times in
1976, Anna Kisselgoff called the dance ' 'a deeply moving testimony to the empathy of the hunters
for the hunted. ' ' The message she was trying to get across was that this is the way one must live to
survive. Also quoting, ' 'Man must kill his prey, but he respects that prey and endows it with noble
qualities. ' '

country through the development of mines, plantations, railways and telegraph lines. While these
developments brought great economic prosperity for Mexico, the quality of life of the peasants was
greatly diminished. The Ley Lerdo law, passed in 1856, meant that land that had previously been
communal and owned by the state could now be sold to the government to haciendados, and
peasants who had once worked the land were now treated almost as slaves by the large estate
owners. This strict hierarchical class system ensured that resentment formed between the peasants
and the middle classes. Elections in the country were also corrupt, with Díaz fixing the election of
1910, and often asking his self–appointed cabinet to amend the Constitution to allow him to do so.
Despite the economic prosperity of the Porfiriato, the social *unrest* throughout the country was
too great – people began to call for the deposition of Díaz as ruler. Several different groups were
involved in the fight for social reformation, but the most notable are known as the 'Big Four'. These
four warlords were Emiliano Zapata and the Zapatistas, Pancho Villa and the Villistas, Venustiano
Carranza and his Constitutionalist Army

  • 3. Benito Juarez Juárez was born in the village of San Pablo Guelatao, Oaxaca on March 21, 1807, located in the mountain range now known as the "Sierra Juárez". His parents, Marcelino Juárez and Brígida García, were peasants who both died when he was three years old. Shortly after, his grandparents died as well, in which his uncle then raised him.[2][3] He described his parents as "indios de la raza primitiva del país," that is, "Indians of the original race of the country."[3] He worked in the corn fields and as a shepherd until the age of 12, when he walked to the city of Oaxaca to attend school. Spain, Great Britain, and France reacted with a joint seizure of the Veracruz customs house in December 1861. Spain and Britain soon withdrew after realizing that the French Emperor Napoleon III used the episode as a pretext to launch the French intervention in Mexico in 1862, with plans to establish a conservative regime. The Mexicans won an initial victory over the French at Puebla in 1862, celebrated annually as Cinco de Mayo (May 5). The French advanced again in 1863, forcing Juárez and his elected government to retreat to the north, first to San Luis Potosí, then to the arid northern city of El Paso del Norte, present day Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, and finally to the capital of the state, Chihuahua City, where he set up his cabinet and government–in–exile. There he would remain for the next two and one–half years. Mercantilism is the economic theory that promoted trades of goods from colonized nations to more powerful ones in order to increase the wealth of the main land. Current day Venezuela, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and Colombia were the prime producers of the plant due to their direct access to the zones that grow it. Mass consumption and production of the coca leaf did not begin until the plant was purified into cocaine. The Chemical isolation and purification of cocaine from the coca leaf (which varies from .5% to 1% of the plant.) started in 1860 by the German scientist Albert Niemann under the wing of Friedrich Wohler . The triangular trade was the established trade routes in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries where South America and west Africa exported raw goods and slaves to Europe where they became commodities to be sold back to the Americas and Africa.. These route allowed the coca leaf to reach the German research. Exotic commodities were gaining popular demand in the late 19 hundreds. • 11. The Basics Of Mediation Between An Addict And A Victim Of... When I was nine years old, I was forced to learn the basics of mediation between an addict and a victim of abuse. I think about the paths I could have taken, had I not met the right people. The culture clichés I could have so easily followed had I chosen to conform rather than create an opportunity for myself. Through the use of persuasive communication, I was able to guide my father away from violence. I remember having trouble my early years of school as I soon became my father's drinking partner. He needed someone to talk to at late hours of the night and I was always available. I would like to say that I am motivated by the positivity in my life, but that would be a lie. In return I do believe it that the negativity I experienced early on and difficulties I faced in childhood that helped shape my focus as I experimented with different careers and fields of study. I have continuously battled the culture of patriarchy entrenched through my background and authority figures. I had to battle my autocratic ruler mentally, verbally and – in unfortunate instances – physically. Although my animosity for my mother's inability to walk away from my father's dominance grew as an adult, I was enlightened by her willingness to serve others. I grew up in a border city, known for its inability to progress and recalled for its femicides. Laredo Field Office Essay According to the Merriam–Webster Dictionary, professionalism is defined as the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person. A few pages to the left, efficient is defined as productive of desired effects, especially productive without waste, an efficient worker. A few more pages to the left, cordial is defined as showing or marked by warm and often hearty friendliness, favor, or approval, a cordial welcome. All three terms are a few to which all officers assigned to Laredo Field Office (LFO) are either born with and which a few even learn on the job. • 13. Analysis Of The Article ' Living On The Border ' Essay In its most basic definition, the U.S.–Mexico Border is a 2000–mile line that divides the United States and Mexico. However, those who spend their lives experiencing the concept of "the border," acknowledge that the U.S.–Mexico Border is more than just a line. It's an epicenter of; historical, political, social, economic, and cultural affairs that influence people on both countries. In this essay, I will be discussing the endogeneity effect between the border and its people and how I influence this phenomenon. Historically speaking, the endogeneity effect between the border and its people began in 1848 with the Treaty of Guadalupe–Hidalgo and it wasn't until the Gadsden Purchase of 1854 that gave the border its current form. In the article entitled Living on the Border: A Wound That Will Not Heal, the author, Norma E. Cantu states that "the pain and joy of the borderlands – come from a wound that will not heal and yet is forever healing." Said quote summarizes Cantu's observations that were influenced by the creation of the U.S.– Mexico border. One of most talked about issues to those who live in on the U.S.–Mexico Border is the economy. The economic relationship between the United States and Mexico began in the colonial era, but it was not formalized and strengthen until the North American Free Trade Agreement was enacted and ratified by both countries, with the addition of Canada, in 1993. The National Border Industrialization Program In the mid 1960's the National Border Industrialization program began, helping the maquiladoras industry and the development of infrastructure of its northern border. Creating job opportunities and means of products into the country. According to Mexico Maquiladoras and NAFTA, Patrick Kelly describes that the maquiladora program "allowed foreign manufacturers to temporarily import duty free machinery, tools, equipment, replacement parts and raw of plentiful and comparatively cheap labor and low transportation costs, materials necessary to assemble and manufacture for export outside the country, which had become an advantage for U.S manufacturers. When the maquiladora industry first began they did not want foreign equipment or raw material to be sold in Mexico without being subject to duty. The Mexican government had its own regulations, within those regulations the maquilas were not allowed to sell completed products in Mexican markets with the risk of losing their registration and continuance of importing goods free of duty. This regulation began to lose its standards in the 1970s. According to Hanson, once the rules weren't practiced like before its import changed and allowed the use of maquiladoras as part of its Border Industrialization Program. The North American Free Trade Agreement The North American Free Trade Agreement, which was ratified under President Bill Clinton and went into effect in 1994 in order to eliminate tariffs over and to turn the United States, Mexico and Canada into the world's second largest trading bloc after the European Union. Many people from Mexico believed that the trade agreement would undercut Mexican farmers with cheap U.S. food imports and worsen the inequality between the two countries. A struggling Mexican economy received an initial boost from foreign investment related to NAFTA. But the economic crisis was caused in part by the political instability that Mexico has been known for, a drop in foreign investors, and a government spending spree toward the end of Salinas' presidency, among other factors that took over the country led to the peso collapsing in late 1994. Despite privatization and NAFTA, wealth still remained mostly concentrated within the elite classes, and the wage gap between Mexico and the United States remained wide. Although NAFTA has stimulated a rise in real income for Mexicans, the country as a whole continues to lack the infrastructure in agribusiness and other industries, and the investment in education and innovation to become more competitive with its northern neighbor. Even though Zapata had been ordered to cease all hostilities, he and 5,000 men entered and captured Cuernavaca, the capital of his native state of Morelos. • 23. History Of Mexico : A Long And Rich One The History of Mexico is a long and rich one, but it is also a really fascinating one. Before the spanish arrived in Mexico, it was already largely inhabited by native Mexicans. These native Mexicans were known as the Chichimecs and they were mostly hunter and gatherer societies. In the rest of Mexico however existed much more advanced populations. Populations like Mayans, Totonacs, Huastecs, Otomis, Mixtecs, Zapotecs, Tlaxcalans, Tarascans, and the Aztecs. These civilizations developed elaborate urban systems of religious, political, and commercial purposes. Cities like Tenochtitlan and Chichen Itza are examples of such cities. When the Spanish arrived into central Mexico, the Aztecs had controlled most of the mesa central through a tribute system. The reason the Aztecs were in the central mesa region was because of their prophecy to found a city on the basis of an eagle with a snake on its beak that was resting on a cactus, this later became Mexicos national symbol. Tenochtitlan was founded in the 1300s and became the capital of the Aztec empire, which they then began warring with local Tribes. Mexicos name actually derives from the Aztec god of war Mexitli. From the time the Spanish landed in Mexico until the end of Hernando Cortez's conquest 1521, Mexico was a colony of Spain. Cortez first entered the valley of Mexico on the mesa central in 1519 after marching from Veracruz, the town that he had founded on the gulf coastal plain. With only 200 men, the conquest of the ... A solution currently being employed is to fix leaks in the cities out dated water pipes. Anywhere from 27–40 percent of the cities water is lost through leaks, an estimated 1100 gallons could be saved a second if these leak were. Other ideas currently in use or suggested include: Collecting rainfall, Desalination, and drip irrigation. My favorite, drip irrigation would not only save 30–70 percent compared with flood irrigation, but has been shown to increase crop yield 20–90 percent, talk about killing two birds with one stone. But really when it comes down to it the easiest and most logical way to cut the cities water demand of 7,750 gallons per second would be to teach people water conservation methods, recycle water more effectively, and/or just stop polluting the current sources. Still it's easier said then done without the proper funding this will never happen. • 32. Emiliano Zapata Essay Emiliano Zapata, born on August 8, 1879, in the village of Anenecuilco, Morelos (Mexico), Emiliano Zapata was of mestizo heritage and the son of a peasant medier, (a sharecropper or owner of a small plot of land). From the age of eighteen, after the death of his father, he had to support his mother and three sisters and managed to do so very successfully. The little farm prospered enough to allow Zapata to augment the already respectable status he had in his native village. In September of 1909, the residents of Anenecuilco elected Emiliano Zapata president of the village's "defense committee," an age–old group charged with defending the community's interests. In this position, it was Zapata's duty to represent his village's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zapata, a rather cautious, soft–spoken man, had become a revolutionary. During the first weeks of 1911, Zapata continued to build his organization in Morelos, training and equipping his men and consolidating his authority as their leader. Soon, Zapata's band of revolutionaries, poised to change their tactics and take the offensive, were known as Zapatistas. On February 14, Francisco Madero, who had escaped the authorities to New Orleans, returned to Mexico, knowing that it was time to restart his revolution with an all–out offensive. Less than a month later, on March 11, 1911, "a hot, sticky Saturday night," the bloody phase of the Mexican Revolution began at Villa de Ayala. There was no resistance from the villagers, who were mostly sympathetic to the revolution, being sharecroppers or hacienda workers themselves, and the local police were disarmed quickly. Not all battles that followed were this quick, however. The revolution took its bloody course with the legendary Pancho Villa fighting in the northern part of Mexico, while Zapata remained mainly south of Mexico City. On May 19, after a week of extremely fierce fighting with government troops, the Zapatistas took the town of Cuautla. Only forty–eight hours later, Francisco Madero and the Mexican government signed the Treaty of Ciudad Juárez, which ended the presidency of Porfirio Díaz and named Francisco León de la Barra, former ... • 33. The Border Cities Of El Paso And Ciudad Juarez Along the Texas/Mexico border there are many border cities, and among the border cities there is a trend that points to an advantage of prosperity on the US side compared to the Mexican side of the border. The border cities of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez show an example of the US advantage over the Mexican side; El Paso is a Texas city on the Texas/Mexico border, and in 2014 it was the city with the lowest crime rate in the US ; Ciudad Juarez, on the other hand was known as one of the deadliest cities in Mexico . Along with the differences in crime rates, El Paso and Ciudad Juarez have many differences that make them clear examples of the advantage that Texas border cities hold over Mexican border cities. Crime In 2010, Ciudad Juarez was one of the most violent cities in all of Mexico with 3,057 murders . Ciudad Juarez became an example of the extent of the drug war that was occurring in Mexico in the 2000s. Death had become a common occurrence in Ciudad Juarez. At the height of the drug war in Mexico, between the years of 2007 and 2012, around 11,078 people were murdered in Ciudad Juarez . In contrast to Ciudad Juarez, El Paso had the lowest crime rate in the US in 2014 . According to the Neighborhood Scout website's interactive map, crime rates in the city of El Paso are for the most part low, but near the border there is a high crime rate. The higher crime rate found along the border is probably due to the ongoing drug trade and illegal immigration that occurs along the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Murder Capital Of The World In a period of four years one metropolitan city experienced a 1,000 percent increase in homicides. Steven Dudley and Elyssa Pachico report that there was an astounding 3,000 murders reported in 2010 compared to only 300 murders in 2006. The statistics dubbed Ciudad Juarez as the murder capital of the world during these years. The ongoing war between the once dominant Juarez Cartel and the current reigning rival Sinaloa Cartel spurred the homicide rate in this crucial drug trafficking route. Recent speculations are that the Sinaloa Cartel led by Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera has surpassed the waning Juarez Cartel and taken control of Cd. Juarez's territory (Shoichet). Just like both groups are to blame for the colossal amount of murders so can the shift in power and dominance by one organized crime group in the area could be accredited the dramatic decrease in violence. Crime in this border city which neighbors El Paso, TX has had a sharp decrease in killings. Julio Castañeda, a Chihuahua state spokesman, reports, "So far this year (2015) there have been 89 killings" (Valencia). Fighting organized crime will always be an international challenge, but the war against organized crime in Mexico and along the border with the United States needs to be approached differently than it has been in the past. The high demand for illicit drugs in the United States needs to be minimized, the supply of weapons flowing south to arm federal law enforcement agencies in Mexico needs to stop, ... • 39. The Mexican Revolution By Porfirio Diaz The Mexican Revolution began in 1910, when after decades of authoritarian rule, the Mexican leader, Porfirio Díaz, was challenged by Francisco I. Madero. Díaz was both the official and unofficial ruler of Mexico from 1876 to 1911. During the Porfiriato, Díaz managed to modernise the country through the development of mines, plantations, railways and telegraph lines. While these developments brought great economic prosperity for Mexico, the quality of life of the peasants was greatly diminished. The Ley Lerdo law, passed in 1856, meant that land that had previously been communal and owned by the state could now be sold to the government to haciendados, and peasants who had once worked the land were now treated almost as slaves by the large estate owners. This strict hierarchical class system ensured that resentment formed between the peasants and the middle classes. Elections in the country were also corrupt, with Díaz fixing the election of 1910, and often asking his self–appointed cabinet to amend the Constitution to allow him to do so. Despite the economic prosperity of the Porfiriato, the social *unrest* throughout the country was too great – people began to call for the deposition of Díaz as ruler. Several different groups were involved in the fight for social reformation, but the most notable are known as the 'Big Four'. These four warlords were Emiliano Zapata and the Zapatistas, Pancho Villa and the Villistas, Venustiano Carranza and his Constitutionalist Army ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
