A BRIEF REVIEW
The present AND future hope we have is secure
through Jesus’ death (and resurrection)
ROMANS 5
5. Therefore, since we are declared to be in the right on the
basis of faith, we have peace with God through our Lord
Jesus Christ; through Him we have obtained access
to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our
hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that,
but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering
produces patient endurance, and patient endurance produces
character, and character produces hope, and hope does not
disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into
our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
Romans 5:1-5
6. For while we were still weak, at the right time
The Messiah died for the ungodly. Indeed, rarely will
anyone die for a righteous person—though perhaps
for a good person someone might actually dare to die.
But God proves his love for us in that while we still
were sinners The Messiah died for us. Much more surely
then, now that we have been declared to be in the right
by His blood, will we be saved through Him
from the coming anger of God.
Romans 5:6-9
7. For if while we were enemies, we were
reconciled to God through the death of His Son;
if that’s so, how much more, having been reconciled,
will we be saved by His life. But more than that,
we even boast in God through our Lord Jesus
The Messiah, through Whom we have now
received reconciliation.
Romans 5:10-11
8. Therefore, just as sin came into the world
through one man, and death came through sin,
so death spread to all because all have sinned—
you see, sin was indeed in the world before the law,
even though sin is not calculated when there is no law.
Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over
those who did not sin by breaking a command, as Adam
had done; Adam who is an advanced prototype of the
One who was to come.
Romans 5:12-14
9. But it isn’t “as the trespass, so also the gift.”
For if the many died through the one man’s trespass,
how much more has the grace of God and the free gift
in the grace of the One man, Jesus Christ, abounded
for the many. And nor is it, “as through the sin of the one,
so also the gift.” For the judgment following one trespass
resulted in a negative verdict, but the free gift following
many trespasses results in a positive verdict.
Romans 5:15-16
10. For if, because of the one man’s trespass, death reigned
through that one, how much more surely will those
who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift
of covenant membership reign in life through the One man,
Jesus The Messiah. Therefore just as one man’s trespass
led to condemnation for all, so through one man’s act
of righteousness leads to justification and life for all.
For just as by the one man’s disobedience the many received
the status of “sinner”, so by the one man’s obedience the
many will receive the status of being “in the right.”
Romans 5:17-19
11. But law came alongside, so that that the trespass
might be filled out to its full extent; but where sin
increased, grace abounded all the more, so that,
just as sin reigned in death, so God’s faithful
covenant justice might also reign through
the age to come, through Jesus The Messiah,
our Lord.
Romans 5:20-21
