This introduction to MPEG Audio is due to Davide Cilano, who wrote it in Italian. It consists of three chapters: a) An introduction to MPEG Audio coding; b) A survey of MPEG Audio syntactic; c) A tutorial on audio perceptive models. The tutorial (1995) is still useful nowadays and should be the basics for better understand the basics and the implementation of the MPEG Audio standard and other psycho acoustic audio compression algorithms. Thanks to Denis Baggi for the translation in english. The author has also developed some C language routines to manage encoded audio signals in order to better understand - and test - the effects of audio editing on compressed audio signals without proceeding to the de-compression. Thanks to Giorgio Dimino, Goffredo Haus, the RAI research center, the LIM laboratory for providing the exceptional support and innovative facilities. The english version is a subset of the entire research performed during 1995-1996.
