Daniel Sheflin, an engineer with over 20 years of experience, was appointed chair of the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Smart Grid Advisory Committee in 2010. The committee reports to the NIST director on responsibilities related to the smart grid as authorized by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. Composed of members from academia, industry, and professional organizations, the committee advises NIST on smart grid research, standards, implementation, interoperability and security to support the goals of the U.S. smart grid.
