Dear Judges:
My name is Dalton Blackmon and I love history. I have been reading and research everything
pertaining to history since I was in the seventh grade. I plan to attend college and major in
American history or in cultural studies. My senor project is to create my family tree containing
as many relatives and ancestors going back as far as I possibly can.
The final product of my project contains all of my known family members dating back to
colonial times in America. My project information is backed with documents, pictures, and other
written entries. My research paper was on well known genealogist John Farmer whose work and
efforts led to the creation of the “New England Historical and Genealogical Society”, a special
genealogical organization that specializes in collecting colonial American records. The last part of my
research project was on how to conduct the research required to get information for putting together a
family tree. This relates to my project in that I used the same techniques covered in my paper along with
more and better ways to conduct this that I had learned later on while putting my project together.

2. My project to put together a family tree relates to how I hope to become a history teacher in
that I learned how to conduct more thorough research, as well as my project heavily revolving around
the topic of history. While conducting and researching for my project I learned just how easy life is here
in twenty first century America compared to life in earlier centuries. I learned that in my great
grandfather’s time life was considered cheap, people would die of easily curable diseases, children
worked all day on the farm or in the factories, and that such technology today has been abused and how
today’s people are spoiled. Over all I learn to treat everyday like a present because it is a miracle that I
am living today. I plan in the future to conduct more in depth research on this project and add to what I
have now.
My project was very exciting and incredibly fun to do. Soon I will be making more copies of the
papers, documents, pictures, and family tree and send them out to other members in my family. I thank
you for time you took out of your busy schedule for my project.
