1. The Last of the ITP 251 Presentations by Chuck Vroman The final production
2. Foreword Now I know that Professor Sutton wants me to throw down everything I learned in this class this semester (and I will get to that), but first I would like to look back and remember a couple of things like: What I knew before I started this class When I started this class, how I felt about it What I expected to gain from it and… The fun I had using the creative side of my brain
3. What I knew about Systems Analysis & Design before I took this class ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!! I was completely clueless to the fact that all of these networks, OS’s, and equipment actually had a process of being put together to make it all work the right way.
4. When I started this class, how I felt about it This what I thought was going through Professor Sutton’s mind… and this is quite literally how I felt about the class (at first).
5. What I expected to gain from ITP 251 To be completely honest… I had no idea what I expected to gain from this class. I thought that it was just another one of those required classes for my degree that had a strict idea of how to do the work. In retrospect, I am so very happy that I was given so much latitude in creating these presentations. I think that it not only gave me a creative outlet, but it also gave me the opportunity to learn while I was having fun.
6. Using the creative side of my brain This really helped me learn. Using this side of my brain wasn’t something that I got to do on a regular basis over the better part of the last decade. It is hard to find a class or an instructor that will let you do this throughout the course of a class. Come to find out.. It’s something I really like to do.
7. Things that I learned through this class First and foremost – I learned the terminology Without this, anyone who was to try and delve into it without this key piece of knowledge would get stuck in a heartbeat! Project Management From the get go, PM is a big part of this course and this subject. I took it upon myself to learn Microsoft’s Project Professional program and use it to my benefit. The PM concepts that you learn in this course set you up for success in any future endeavors.
8. Things that I learned through this class(continued) Ethics Though most of us would not or did not realize this, ethics were a part of almost every lesson and related to real-world situations which we may be put in I had no idea that ethics, as it relates to IT, were so important. Methods of Analysis, Design, and Implementation I learned that there is more than just one way to do a thing and still get it done efficiently, on time, and on budget.
9. Things that I learned through this class(continued) Security The importance of planning, implementing, and managing an efficient and effective IT security program The Business Model How IT fits into the model What IT can do for the Business How the business model can benefit any IT program The requirements of IT in the Business Model
10. What I am going to take with me Obviously, I am going to take everything that we have learned over the past semester and put it to use the best way that I can. As to what I am going to do with it… I’m not quite sure at this point. I feel like I’m at a crossroads career wise and I’m not sure what my plans are for the future. I am going use the newly re-found creativity in any way that I can.
11. What I am going to take with me(continued) Heck, during the course of this class, I have come up with a fictional company and used it in other presentations for other classes. I will continue to use this “company” in presentations as long as instructors allow me to do so.
12. What I am going to take with me(continued) I even came up with all of the company slogans, a mission statement, and I found a great picture to symbolize the values of such a company I think that other people should be able to enjoy the satirical environment that I can provide.
13. How I am going to use what I have learned Right now, what I have learned in this course actually plays well in my home life. I have learned how to organize and manage tasks from the finite to the big picture. I think that this will serve me well both at home, in the rest of my collegiate career, and in the working world once I graduate.
14. Last, but certainly, not least… Professor Sutton… I really want to thank you for this class It helped me to understand not only the subject matter, but also a little bit about how to go about re-organizing things on a personal level. The creativity you let me express has helped me in my other courses and apparently other people find what I do entertaining as well. I would also like to thank you for the understanding that you have shown It’s nice to know that someone else understands that life happens and that we have no control over it.
15. Fin This is the end of my presentation. If anyone needs me for anything… I am sorry. I will be unavailable for most of the next 19 years as I attempt to get all of my kids out of the house and retire with my wife somewhere in the world where I know I will not be bothered by the “Dad, I need money” phone calls. Have a great Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, Hijra, Yule, Ashura, etc.
