Martin Eberhard is an American engineer and entrepreneur who co-founded Tesla Motors in 2003. He served as Tesla's first CEO until 2007. Eberhard has an engineering background, earning degrees from the University of Illinois. Prior to Tesla, he founded startups that developed computer terminals and one of the first e-book readers. At Tesla, Eberhard helped launch the company's first electric vehicle, the Tesla Roadster. In 2007, he transitioned from Tesla's board and became an advisor, then confirmed he was no longer employed at Tesla in 2008.
