Vision develops rapidly in infants. At birth, vision is poor but infants can blink in response to light and stare at objects 8-10 inches away. By 1 month, infants can see some colors and follow objects up to 90 degrees. By 2-3 months, infants can shift their gaze between objects without moving their head and light detection improves. Stimulating activities like changing items in the room and talking to babies help vision development in 2-3 month olds. By 6 months, visual acuity improves greatly and color vision matches adults, allowing infants to see all colors. Regular eye exams starting at 6 months are recommended to monitor development.
