Black and White project: LIGHT
In the next two weeks shoot at least two black and white films that explore the
theme of Light
The pictures that you take on the black and white film can be of any aspect of
light that you care to investigate : for example you may choose to study
aspects of
Reflections
Silhouettes
The quality of light across textures and forms (across a face, body, tree, fruit)
Distorted light
Shadows
Light at different times of day
Contrasts of Daylight and Artificial light.
Concentrate on only one or two different aspects of light and explore
thoroughly your chosen area.
Back up your film work by taking Digital pictures at the same time as you
shoot film.
Complement your investigation by researching images that are similar to your
studies. These pictures may come from magazines/ adverts / newspapers etc.
You must also investigate pictures by established photographers – examples
might include: Edward Weston, Cartier Bresson, Ranger Patsch, Jane Bown
Jan Sudek, Imogen Cunningham, Weegee, Rodchenko, Gustav le Gray,
Ravilious,Edward Steichen, Fay Godwin and many others..
Comment on these images using the ‘how to write about a photograph’
worksheet as a guide.
Select six of your photographs that you consider to be the most successful
and then print and mount them for display. Comment in your journal on why
you have chosen them and also in what way they are successful and how
they could possibly be improved.
